What would make Windows shut down on a computer. My Windows shut down couple days latter Windows is up and running again.

First off, you might want to check your Power Options Properties in your control panel, and ensure that your computer is not going into Hibernate mode.

I have never put my computer on Hiberate Mode ever I just shut down my computer when not in use.

It's still kind of difficult to say. My current install of XP will sometimes take out sound services when I recover from hibernate mode, which doesn't happen when I use my other hard disk. --Sometimes an occaisonal reboot is necessary to restore audio.

Though my computer tried reconfigured its BIOS. What are BIOS.

BIOS Basic Input Output System.

It's the chip on your motherboard that allows all of your hardware to function as a computer. It can mess up on rare occaisons, usually due to a BIOS battery that's dying, a minor powersurge, or from overheating, and reset itself to factory default.

If that happens you *may* have to go into the BIOS settings during your computer's POST (The POSTscreen will give you info on the BIOS manufacturer, BIOS Version, and info on how to access it) and check the BUS and CPU multiplier settings to ensure that they are setup correctly for the BUS on your Motherboard, and the CPU that you have, as the BIOS will reset to the lowest settings. --Be carefull with the settings, as overclocking the settings will void any warranties, and will burn up improperly cooled components.

It's best not to mess around with any settings in the BIOS if you don't have an idea of what you're doing, though on the other hand, if you do decide to go into it and look around, it's all pretty self explanitory.[/i]

What would make the computer reconfigure its BIOS. I did not do anything to what to make it reconfigure its BIOS. It just did it on its own.

It may have overheated, or experienced a minor powersurge.

If you've moved your computer to a new position, or have stuff blocking the ventilation intake/exhaust ports in the computer case, it would most likely be due to overheating.

If not it would probably be due to a minor power surge, which could be caused by anything ranging to inclement weather (Highly unlikely) to a voltage spike through your powerlines, to a poor connection inside of your computer case. --If your computer is working now, it's probably ok.

I have one anti-surge power strips and ventilation is good also nothing blocking ventilation either. I hope I don't have anymore problems.

It could be a virus if it's reconfiguring the BIOS. Is the computer doing anything else strange?

Did it just "shut down" all by itself (you we're nowhere near the computer), or we're you doing something when it shut down?

The computer was on but I was doing nothing on the computer at the time. That also goes when Windows XP shut down as well by itself. So what would make BIOS reconfigure itself and even Windows XP shut down by itself.
