Well I was on the internet installing programs like ClamAV for Ubuntu. Well I type in the command to install ClamAV from the terminal and guess what. I am asked for my Log-In Password like usally. Also to make matters worse it won't let me type in the password. None of the keys will work even if I clicked inside the terminal box before typing.

ClamAV (or any AV for that matter) is pointless in Linux. When you're asked for your password in the terminal, it won't actually show that you're typing anything- just type your password and hit enter, it should work. Don't worry that it's not showing the asterisks like you would expect.

Thanx a bunch Orwell. So far Ubuntu is far better than I thought now that I've fully tested the new version.

What I like a lot though is the number of Open-Sorce Educational Tools that will help with homework.

The immediate availability of so much free stuff is one of the cooler things about Linux. There's the little "Add/Remove" menu that gives you such a massive selection to choose from. Just out of curiosity, what software are you finding that's helping you with homework?

You're gonna need a gui, such as clamtk for clamav if you don't feel like using command line to run clamav. Orwell is right, antivirus programs aren't much use in ubuntu. I have clamav to scan files i gonna use on a windows computer though

I occasionally find Kig useful.

Maxima never seems to do quite what I want it to do, but I never spend enough time learning how to use it properly.

I waste far too much time, being vaguely bemused, with Xaos and Golly.
