ok im really really new to all this computering stuff so need some help with this. ive been reading on here that the most secure way to ensure your emails are protected and safe is through encryption.

well this might be a really really stupid question but what exactly does that mean???.....

is it encrypting a safe backup file or something???

Encryption is a way of securing your files such that other people can't read them without your permission.

Honestly, I've never seen the need for encryption for most personal users. My e-mail simply is not interesting enough for someone to want to eavesdrop on.

E-mail encryption requires quite a bit of organising to get right, you and the person you want to talk with need to generate keys and share public keys. Since hardly anyone has keys I wouldn't worry about it.

Sadly I don't think E-mail servers talk to eachother with TLS although clients talk to servers with TLS. IMO they should.

I don't think it makes sense to encrypt email until you can positively identify the sender's id. Spending cycles en/decrypting the 98+% of email that is spam/virii and/or forged is just a waste.
