I want to see this but it is not playing at my neighborhood theater.
Being a fan of Robert Zemeckis, I'll see this anyway.

I saw it last weekend. It was much better than I thought it would be, but still, I'm not a fan of the animation over live actors stuff.

I highly recommend to see it in 3D, preferably in IMAX. It's just not the same otherwise. It's so in-your-face.

Must say I'm a little but off by the animation, whatever happened to actors in front of a proper camera?

Yeah, luddite, I know.

Completely CGI films, even with motion capture, will never replace good old live action films. And I dare say, beauteousday and MrGrey, that a few live-action films have mo-capped CG characters that you don't even notice, even if they're not as overt as Gollum (LOTR) or Davy Jones (Pirates of the Caribbean)

Having a film be in CG is an artistic choice and I respect it. I, for one, like well done CGI films. I enjoy seeing a close up of a CG face and gawking at how real it looks. Plus, if it was just actors it would look too much like Lord of the Rings or 300, and it wouldn't be as asthetically pleasing to me personally.

Plus, it's nice to see a CGI film that isn't about talking animals and fart jokes and miscast celebrity voice actors for the sake of celebrity voice actors...we need more animated films for adults. Most of the adult animation is restricted to anime these days, unfortunately.

Is it animated then? I'm really going to make a point to see it now.

It is motion capture animation, in the same sort of style as Polar Express, if you've ever seen that. And, need I say, a far better movie. It's great that someone has been bold enough to use animation for such a topic. And I saw it last Wednesday and really enjoyed. The only bit I didn't like was the bit with Grendel's first appearance but that was just because of the flashing blue fire -- I don't like lights flashing in the dark. But the animation (and the likeness to the actors doing the voices) is amazing.

Note though: NOT FOR KIDDIES. People think that something's animated therefore let's take our kids along -- but this is DEFINITELY not for kids.

One only has to think of most Japanese animation. I also watched Who Framed Roger Rabbit recently for the first time in nearly a decade, and I actually realised that there was so much innuendo in it, yipes.

I do a bit of animating, both 3d and traditional, so that is why it would interest me, even if it is motion capture.

Ah. I wouldn't say "even". Motion capture is brilliant whichever way you look at it.
