I started writing fan fiction a few years ago when I wrote a fifty-page ongoing VeggieTales fan fiction, all about what went on behind the scenes as they were producing the movies (as if there weren't any people involved). I've never posted it online and I don't have it anymore (long story).

The other fan fiction that I've written is mostly LotR or LotR/Narnia crossovers. Because of Tolkien's religious and moral beliefs (and this goes for CS Lewis, as well), I do not believe in slash for these two categories of fanfics. I don't have anything wrong with other people reading/writing slash stories, but I would ask that readers are fairly warned. :)

Oh, if any of you are interested in LotR/Harry Potter fan fiction, check out stupidring.com. There's a crossover story where Frodo and Sam travel to Hogwarts trying to find Gandalf and they meet up with some of the students there. Not being a Harry Potter fan myself, I can't really give a very good review on that side of things. 8)

SpaceCase, remind me to send you one of my LotR fan fictions. ;) I don't post on very many sites, though, especially not fanficiton.net. *shakes head slowly and grieviously* Alas for the fate of so many wonderful stories that people don't get to read...

I don't think there is anything wrong with fanfiction in and of itself, but most of it sucks. Too many fanfic authors have their own agenda and misinterpret the intent of the origina piece or character, not to mention stoop to inserting their own May Sues into the story. And worse still, fanfiction usually has no future.

Most fanfiction bores me to death, but I sometimes like to read really bad porno fanficiton, if only for the laughter value.

I admit to having written fanfiction in the past. I wrote a story about the game Lemmings Chronicles, and one Tomb Raider piece. Both of these make me cringe with embarassment when I think back on them, but I realize they were both necessary to help me learn how to write.

Of recent stories that I've written, one may technically be called fanficiton, because it is also legally unpublishable. It is set in a world that is not mine (a role-playing setting), but revolves around characters that are mine. I guess this technically constitutes fan fiction, but of a variety that is certainly more commendable than that which just utilizes characters that have already been written.

If you're at all familiar with the Planescape setting, you can read it here:

I don't like Mary Sues either. Fan fiction can change the story a little bit, but it must stick clearly within canon (what the author intends for the book). Most of my fan fiction (which is LotR) follows canon, but doesn't take place during the time of the War of the Ring. I enjoy writing about adventures that the various characters have while growing up. That way, I can invent my own storylines, bring in an original character or two, but still remain well within the sacred bound of Tolkien's canon. ;)

I write CSI fanfiction, GSR fanfiction specifically. I've only made two until now, a oneshot and a multichapter. It's a good creativity exercise. Here they are:

My Love
Sara, come back!

They're romantic, but twisted.

I read fanfiction about Harry Potter, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Hunchback from Notre Dame (in Walt Disney's version), The Green Mile and The Terminator.

I like slash and chanslash very much :D Few days ago I discovered that I like especially fanfiction about incest  Like for example in the fanfic being read by me in this very moment: "Nobody but yourself" in which Percy Weasley realizes he feels a flame a burning desire in his loins every time he sees his own father

I HATE fanfiction. hate it, hate it , hate it! there's nothing worse than to see some poor author's expertly crafted painstakingly detailed characters torn from thier works by some nobody who thinks s/he's f*****g Monet becuase they make said author's character emo or cut themselves or have sex with someone they never were supposed to. To me, Fanfiction is the biggest insult to a writer possible. it's insulting, its possessive and it's unimaginative. For another thing, it teaches you absolutely nothing about becoming an original author. Fanfiction teaches you nothing about original character creation, plot invention, metaphor construction, motifs, or any of the other aspects needed to write good fiction. It's currently the basest form of storytelling on the internet. (if you haven't guessed, I feel very strongly on the subject.)

So many stories written by fans are so naive and stupid, full of horrible mistakes concerning not only spelling (I could stand them anyhow) but also elementary logic :( Especially fanfics from Harry Potter world are rich in all that Mary Sueish s**t :?

At the beginning it can be quite a good school of writing for a young writer, or maybe rather I should have wrote, a writer in spe - he doesn't invent a world on his own but uses somebody's world to practise writing. The time to invent a new world will come later (or maybe never - lack of talent isn't painful, unfortunately :? ) After all, nobody forces me to read those pieces of crap.

What a pity there's not too much good fanfics drawing from Lovecraft's stories in the Internet. Lol, I just thought it would be funny to read slash about Cthulhu and Yog Sototh or Nyarlathotep and Azathoth   Btw, Vorzac, do you know this?:

I know of unspeakable vault, but I don't consider it fanfiction as such, more something of a parody inspired by lovecraft. there's a fine line between homage/inspiration and ripping-off-someone-else's-work.
