Don't watch the show regularly, although D'Onofrio is an excellent actor (remember him as Orson Welles in Ed Wood?) I like D'Onofrio's character a lot.
Had an eye on him since Mystic Pizza, back when he was Phillip Vincent D'Onofrio, even the mouthful of a name got my attention-wondered how to pronounce. Find him wondrously chameleon-like.

I used to love Richard Belzer's character Munch on Homicide (a *great* show that should never have been cancelled) and now I can't even stand to watch him. (I do love the irony of Ice "Cop Killer"-T playing a detective.)
Didn't see Homicide when it started, but was devoted to it once I started watching. Lots of very interesting actors, to my mind. Esp. was excited about "Subway" episode in which D'Onofrio starred, as the victim. (PBS even did a whole special about the making of the episode-that was such great fun to watch !)
Yes, it's way odd to have Ice-T as Mr. Status Quo on S.V.U. (Back when I watched I'd call it Law & Order SUV, to amuse myself).

I know that a certain amount of desensitization is necessary on the job, but I think it's taken to an extreme. I'd like to see more episodes where the cops and lawyers have to deal with people who know their Constitutional rights and aren't afraid to use them.
Yeah, why isn't it sexy & thrilling when ordinary characters are in the right & the powers that be are in the wrong ?

And those mistakes can ruin or end lives. That's why I like the new ABC show InJustice, where a group of lawyers works to correct cops' and other lawyers' mistakes and uncover their cover-ups.
Agree, seriously-personally know how broken the "in-justice" system is. Don't watch tv, but glad to hear of this show.
Sorry, forgot all about Noth. He was before my time on Homicide (think he re-appeared briefly), never saw Ally MacBeal (sp?), so I've not much opinion on him.
