True Blood
To me it just seems like "Twilight" only as a TV series and not a movie I've never actually seen it though, so I'm probably making a bad judgment call on it Could someone please explain to me how this and "Twilight" are any different? (besides obvious differences like characters and the fact that it's a series of TV episodes) Never seen "Twilight" either come to think of it but it looks icky and boring, lol, and so does "True Blood"
True blood is not as... um, nice. Lotsa, lotsa sex scenes but, it's on HBO, of course, so it's not really a surprise its like that.
And the vampires aren't as glamorized. They don't sparkle, or live off animal blood or anything wussy like that. They are vampires and they must kill to live for the most part.
The vampires' (in True Blood) existence was revealed to the (human)public after a nutritionally suffient synthetic blood was developed by the Japanese.
Needless, not all the vampires were too happy about their (until now, top secret) presence becoming acknowledged/known by the humans and a lot of them still do their own thing. And naturally, some mortal people don't like the vampires and uh, yeah. Bad feelings all around.
And that's my sucky (no pun intended) summary of True Blood's general premise. (:
Oh. And Sookie is a telepathic waitress (human) who's pretty kicka$$ in her own right. (:
And it takes place in the south.
It's more than just a typical Girl-meets-Vampire cliche, supernatural romance. I think there'smore to the plot than just that. (:
And I find it addicting. XD
It's completely different than Twilight, take my word for it. (:
'Tween' girls don't wactch True Blood - or at least their parents would kill them if they did.
I suggest you give the show a try and see what you think before you make too many preconceptions about it.
Yup.
(Double post, sorry. But I felt the need to address two topics separately.)
So... I just saw episode 5!
I like the way Godric looks on the show. Ever since I read his description in the book with his tattoos and all I was curious how they'd portray him.
He looked very good in the last episode. The tattoos were nicely done and he looked satisfactorily young in his human age, yet convincingly ancient in a vampire-y way. (:
Now I still wonder how they'll do Alcide...
****Spoiler Season 2, episode 5****
You've been warned, but I'll try to be sort of vague anyway, so I don't ruin too much for the new viewers who feel irresistibly compelled to read clearly marked spoilers such as this. (:
What did you think about the latest Eric development? That was definitely not in the books but I can't wait to see where they'll go with this newly revealed relationship of his. I think I kinda like it. It could be really interesting - depending, of course, how the um... other entity in this relationship ends up. XD
Any opinions on this?
I haven't seen the last episode yet because of some technical difficulties that I'm really hoping will be fixed by today (I can't use this computer because it's the school's and the sound doesn't work.) I did cave a little and happened upon one spoiler, but I really am trying to wait until I actually get to watch it.
I love the show ! ! Don't get hbo or syfi, so i DL. I agree about the sex scenes, Isn't that what porn is for? I wonder what the startrek chick is? I'm thinking like a greek goddess or something ! ! Every monday i stare at the computer screen just waiting for the upload, those cliff hangers at the end really get me going ! !

To the Twilight person: uh for one thing it is a million freaking times better in almost every respect. Unlike Twilight it's actually about VAMPIRES, rather than pansy superheroes who sparkle in the sun. And unlike Twilight the characters are complicated and interesting and aren't just about their appearances. Unlike Twilight, Sookie and Bill are into each other for more than just visual attraction--whereas Edward and Bella just are like "We have nothing in common but you're so hot!", Sookie has a very good reason for loving Bill, and while Bella comes across like a preppy little twat that no vampire would EVER fall for, it's easy to see why Bill would fall for Sookie. The romance is also more realistic in the way that it's not perfect--both Bill and Sookie make mistakes and there are arguements about them, arguements that are often unresolved at best, just like real life. Unlike Twilight, Sookie doesn't let Bill break into her house or stalk her or just be innappropriate, especially not at the beginning, whereas Bella lets Edward act like a complete freaking stalker, even though he has said that he might kill her because he wants her blood so much. And unlike Twilight, the show has blood and sex--Twilight has neither! (Maybe the last book did, but vampire sex in True Blood doesn't make the freaking house shake.) While Twilight has no particularly orginal concept (how many times have we seen vampires in high school before?), True Blood DOES have one: taking the vampires into the real world and focusing on the cultural clash, the political implications of "coming out of the coffin." The show, essentially, is a million times more mature and adult and, yes, for all its trashiness and sex-crazed writing, it's a LOT more sophisticated. Twilight is immature, nonsensical, and frankly silly.
From here on into this post: SPOILER ALERTS. If you haven't been keeping up with Season 2 read no further.
Yeah, Godrick is interesting, though I think that the development was kind of odd. Even if he wasn't Eric's maker I'd think Bill would understand the importance of the mission to vampires all over the world. A super-powerful sheriff being kidnapped by a measly group of extremist humans who want to destroy vampires everywhere? He's an idiot not to understand how important that is, not just to Eric but to all vampires.
What I wanna know is, what the hell is up with the baphomet/minotaur thing? What happens to people who are scratched? WHY has Sam never asked Daphne, "So what's up with those scratch marks?" At the end of Episode 4 it looked like Maryanne was growing claws, does she summon it by doing those sex orgy things, or is she it herself? Does the PIG have something to do with it? Maybe it's not a bull-head at all, but a pig-head? o.O
Speaking of which I am tired of Maryanne, I hate her, and I hate the overlong dance orgy scenes that happened for episodes 2-4. Seriously, 3 episodes in a row with those is too much. :/ And Tara is a dope for letting her stay and throw parties in Sookie's house! Blah!
And Jason...wtf. Seriously, I don't buy his character arc. I know he's supposed to have seen it as a miracle that he was released (rather than give his sister credit where credit was due), but after being traumatized by seeing a vampire he was sympathetic towards murdered, I just don't see him going in this direction. I know Jason's a moron but I don't buy it. It's just contrived, and I get the feeling it only exists as buildup to a scene where he, leading a team of the Fellowship of the Sun, is going to conflict with Sookie's mission.
I concur.

Ugh. I don't like Bill very much. I just find him sort of boring and generally not very perceptive. He seems not to see the big picture, like you said. Sookie seems more intelligent than he is and I sometimes feel that he is a bit overprotective of her.
I have a theory about Daphne. I don't think her scratches are from the minotaur. I think they're from some other creature. My reasoning for that really doesn't go any deeper than I don't think that she could have gotten treatment in time for such a poisonous 'minotaur' wound like Sookie was able to. I just don't feel like she has the connections.
I'll keep most of my MaryAnne theories to myself. I'm not sure how in line with the books that mess will follow. Though I still wonder about why the heck she was preying on Sam when he was a kid. It's just not adding up in my head. And now what does she want from Tara? And what the heck is up with Eggs and Karl(?)? Hmmm...
Jason's an idiot. That's all I really have to say on that.
Daphne certainly didn't get the scratches tended to. Sookie did and they disappeared. But Daphne's scars remain...and that's why I'm curious how they effect her, and why I don't trust her. They wouldn't draw attention to it if it wasn't somehow important, and the fact that Sam isn't asking about it probably means it's building up to a time when he WILL at a dramatic moment.
I thought that maybe they were trying to mislead us with Daphne's marks, since the minotaur-thing is what the viewer automatically thinks of when they see claw marks. That's why I figure they might have been a wound from another shifter. I assumed that without treatment the poison in the minotaur clawmarks kill the person - hence the scrambling when Sookie was scratched. That's why I think Daphne's are not from the minotaur.
But maybe Daphne is enchanted or something - maybe she's being controlled or influenced by whatever attacked her to make the scar. Perhaps she's been somehow tainted by the contact. That's a very interesting idea.
Or maybe it was the minotaur and it's just a weird shifter thing that helped her to survive the poison.
If she did somehow survive an attack from the minotaur and did get the scar from that and if we assume Maryanne and the minotaur are connected somehow, when Sam confronts Daphne about her scars, and she tells him they're from something related to the crazy lady and/or her pig, then he'd probably relate with her and feel sympathetic towards her since he had also been taken advantage of by Maryanne (or her barnyard buddies).
If that happened, then she'd gain Sam's trust and be able to deceive/use him more easily for whatever plot she has in mind.
Whatever the case, I agree that she can't have good motives. I like your idea that she's something-other-than-herself as a result of getting the marks. Interesting...
Was anyone else as madly happy as I when they strayed from the books and kept Lafayette Reynolds alive?? I love his new storyline! Nelsan Ellis brings that character to life so well. Can't wait to see what happens next.
I didn't like Jessica (or JeTHica as Bill calls her ) at all to begin with as her lines were really bad and she's not in the books, but she's growing on me now + Hoyt needs a girl.
i watch it now.... had to wait for the dvds, because I don't get showtime.....

Only watched 3 episodes on FX so far (im actually gonna leave it week by week so I have something forward to look to rather then just storming straight through it) and think it's really good, can see it getting better the further it goes along.
Just heard it's been picked up for a 3rd season in the states as well.
