Anyone remember the early days of Nickelodeon?

Remember shows like Pinwheel, Today's Special, and the one that put Nick on the map...You Can't Do That on Television?

I don't know the shows you named, but I'm 22 and watched a lot of Nickelodeon in the 90's. I really liked Salute Your Shorts and Hey Dude. I also remember watching Are You Afraid of the Dark, Pete and Pete, Secret World of Alex Mack, Clarissa Explains It All, Kablam, Legends of the Hidden Temple, etc. And I remember lots of green slime.

I watched those shows as well.

The shows I was referring to were from the late 70s and 80s.

The slime originated on You Can't Do That on Television.

The earliest Nick shows that I remember seeing were Doug, Ren and Stimpy, and many other Nicktoons (I'm not much of a live-action fan).

Anyway, I've seen Catscratch and The Mighty B! and to be honest, I don't know why classic Nick fans hate those shows so much. They are so similar to the old school Nicktoons in style and humor, and I think that they get more hate than they deserve.

Nick didn't really catch on in the UK until the mid nineties. My brother and sister watched it all the time, but I only had a passing interest. I used to like Clarissa, Kenan and Kel and another one I think was called Smart Guy.

What, no AAAAHH!! Real Monsters? Shame on you folks. :P

What I really love about old nick were some of the game shows. My favorite was a video game themed one. I can't remember the title at all, but it was a game show where, in the final round of the show, the contestants had to go on a shopping spree of sorts and collect a bunch of games in a limited amount of time.

That, and Legends of The Hidden Temple. A lot of those games looked like a lot of fun to be a part of.

I believe it was. I was a kid when that aired so I don't remember much about it.

And there was also Double Dare. Always wanted to be a contestant on that.

http://www.freewebs.com/oldnickelodeonshows/

Seems like a good list at that site!
Going through, I watched a ton of Nick in the 90s it seems cause most of the shows I really remember are from then.
Pete and Pete was great. I think Doug is still one of my favorite shows from childhood (and his voice, Billy West, is by far my favorite voice over actor probably because of it, he also co-created and did the voices for both Ren and Stimpy)
Nick Arcade was cool as hell too, if you go to youtube you can watch a bunch of clips, soo cheesy now and such an awful game show, but it was the coolest thing ever in like 1992 or when ever that was =P
I'll still catch Rocko's Modern Life on one of the 2 dozen cartoon stations i've got on satellite when flipping through and thoroughly enjoy it. I remember a bit of Salute Your Shorts too, i dont recall getting that into the show, but a half dozen times i've caught actors in movies recently and when looking them up to see where I knew them from, it was Salute your Shorts.

Only thing that site is missing is the years the showed aired, gotta go to IMDB to check that out.

You Can't Do That on Television was my favorite '80s Nick show growing up. My favorite people on the show were Alasdair and Vanessa.

Oh God, how I miss the 90's when Nickelodeon was actually good. I remember as a kid every afternoon and every weekend I would watch my favorite cartoons like The Rugrats, Spongebob (the old episodes, not the new crap they show now where Spongebob is just an annoying idiot), Hey Arnold, Angry Beavers, and Are You Afraid of the Dark?

Those were the good days, but now nothing good comes on Nick. They hardly even show cartoons anymore, same with Cartoon Network. And the cartoons they do show just aren't as funny as the old ones.

Maybe it's just because I'm older now and don't find new cartoons to be entertaining anymore, and I still think the old ones are funny because I remember them being funny as a kid?
