This is straying from the original topic a little so let me know if this is not the appropriate thread to bring this up. I think my brother declared outright war on me when we were watching Dr. Who (Eccleston, though I don't feel like I've seen enough of any of them to pick a favorite) It was the season finale the daleks were saying "do not interrupt do not interrupt" I pointed out that in saying this they were all interrupting. My brother said, "Daleks are on the spectrum." Understanding this situation may require knowing how much of a "button pusher" my brother is. I mention this here because most of the other people I'd consider relating this to aren't familiar with Dr. Who so I fear they don't quite understand this.

All the Docs have their own particular strengths. The show has evolved through the years, and was always the product of its time. That said, Tom Baker is my own personal deity.

There is something about a hyper-intelligent wanderer that I found easy to identify with. The more I learn about AS, the more I understand why.

Just a little update: since my last post on this topic, I have seen episodes featuring Peter Davison and episodes featuring David Tennant. A word on each: Davison is somewhat fine, heard the fifth Doctor has an obsession with cricket, while Tennant is an absolute nut, IMO. The tenth Doctor sounds like he's hyperactive, like he's eaten too much jelly babies. He's also perhaps the most pop culture-obsessive Doctor I've ever seen (his bad Elvis impression in The Idiot's Lantern, his singing Ghostbusters with Rose in Army of Ghosts). Anyway, that's just my two cents.

Yes, but also, he actually has moments where he is, if anything, even darker than Christopher Eccleston, although the jury's still out how he compared to Tom Baker, Colin Baker, and Sylvester McCoy's Doctors.

One case in point occurs in "School Reunion", or rather, a few. In one sequence, he admits to his Rose that the reason why he left Sarah behind is because he is effectively immortal, while his companions aren't. In a slightly later sequence, while confronting Mr Finch, he admits that he is so old, and becoming less merciful. And in another later scene, he is initially tempted by the Krillitane's offer to help them with the Skasis Paradigm, when he realises he can reverse the effects of the Time War. The Doctor is rarely tempted in such a way that he nearly gives in, and this is one of those rare instances.

Colin Baker has to have had the 'darkest' characterization of Dr Who - at the peak of his callous violence he pushed a guard into a vat of acid, then made a glib comment whilst brushing himself down and then waltzed off.

I think Colin was actually very good, and had loads to offer the character. Unfortunately he was given scripts/plots/costume etc that didnt gel with the characters legacy.

Well, he couldn't help 'em, and he did it by accident. So what could he do? But he was callous in several cases to Peri. Shortly after regenerating, he tries to throttle her. After having his mind screwed up by Crozier's device in "Mindwarp" (Trial of a Time-Lord), he acted like a villain. I know the Valeyard buggered up the evidence, but there'd be some truth to it.

Peter Davison was my first doctor and he is definately one of my favourites! plus Spare Parts is awesome!
Tom baker was great, and had good stories to boot!
Colin baker: heard his audios are great! - heard he is disliked for the TV show...might be down to BS at the BBC and writing.
CE, hes ok, good drama and seriousness.
Tennant, seems to push it, like hes trying to be all the doctors roll into one...hes getting really good however and the final two episodes from series 2 (2006) he acted really well!

I can't stand the new ones, to me they're on the same level as Eastenders and all that other idiotic pap. The Doctor I saw seemed completely devoid of personality or charm and the dialog was atrocious.

When I was young I really liked Pertwee as he was in most of the repeats they were showing. Never much cared for Davidson as I didn't find him particularly eccentric or charismatic.

Now that I've seen alot of them I'd have to say that Pertwee and Baker are my favourites.

Well, then, don't post here, Yank. This is about the British science-fiction series Doctor Who about an eccentric time-travelling alien known only as "the Doctor".

Go on. Bugger off.

I LOVE Eccleston and am still a bit unsure where I like this Tennant guy or not (only seen about 5 or 6 eps of his first season).

I loved Eccleston for his quirkyness, though Tennant seems more and more like a nut for every episode I watch (he loves the muppet movie? Huh?! lol)

Can't wait until I get to see more!
