I finished watching The Exorcist on Youtube. The acting was awesome. The movie itself isn't really scary as much as it is creepy and disturbing.

If you can find it, I highly recommend the audiobook read by the author. It's much creepier than the movie.

I recently watched:
Spider
The End of the Affair
Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit
The Green Mile
A Midsummer Night's Dream

Ninja Assassin - decent action but the plot, not so sure.

Beetlejuice

I watched it because I have vague memories of my parents watching it when I was a child, and I loved the cartoon version. I enjoyed the movie. I thought that the concept of ghosts continuing to "un-live" in the place they died was fascinating, The Maitlands were the friendliest ghosts this side of Casper - they didn't mean any harm; they just didn't want to share their house with anyone. Lydia's morbid personality made me laugh. I was happy that she was played by Winona Ryder. And, of course, Beetlejuice himself was a riot. Michael Keaton was perfect for the role.

Cry-Baby

At first I was pretty skeptical that I would enjoy a movie about greasers in the 50s, but I wound up really enjoying it. The characters are a lovable, if scrappy, bunch. I could see where some people might be tempted to label Allison, and maybe even Cry-Baby himself as Mary Sues though. The tone of the movie is deliberately and extremely cheesy, but it never takes itself seriously and it has a decent ending.

Drop Dead Fred

This is now one of my favorite movies. I fail to see why it garnered such an overwhelmingly negative response. While a lot of reviewers find it crude, obnoxious and annoying, I thought it was cute, imaginative and downright funny. The acting was great; Rik Mayall really shines as Fred. Russel Brand is going to have a hard time topping that performance in the 2011 remake.

NOOOOOOO! They're remaking it!?!? That absolutely crushes my heart. :( And Russell Brand? That is truly upsetting indeed. Why do they have to remake everything?! GAH!

Drop Dead Fred has been one of my favourite movies for as long as I can remember. Though watching it as an adult I sometimes wonder what my parents were thinking when they let me watch it as a child.

Ghost World

I sat through half an hour of it and couldn't stand it anymore. I thought it was really boring. It's just like Napoleon Dynamite, without any of the humor or charm. The trailer was really deceptive. I want my money back. At least I didn't spend nearly as much money on it as I did on Public Enemies, another movie that I thought I would enjoy but didn't.

Rock Slyde

This movie was just so incredibly funny. It's a spoof on hard-boiled detective movies, with Patrick Warburton as a clueless, down on his luck private detective. If you like this type of movie (think Murder by Death), then you'll probably like this one.

Here's a trailer if you're interested:

Ed Wood

A Tim Burton/Johnny Depp collaboration. It's a biopic about Edward D. Wood Jr., who was the infamous creator of a number of notoriously bad movies such as Glen Or Glenda and Plan 9 From Outer Space. This movie has quite a different feel than other Burton movies, because it doesn't have any of his trademark themes/elements in it (German expressionism, spirals, stripes, dogs, dinner scenes, dark circles around the eyes, unusual hands, etc.) It's filmed like an old movie, in black and white; a stylistic choice which is actually lampshaded in one scene.

Anyway, about the actual movie itself - it manages to mix both humor and drama effectively. The acting was absolutely terrific - Johnny Depp was great as always in the title role, and Martin Laundau was just awesome as Ed Wood's best friend Bela Lugosi. Bill Murray also has a small part as one of Wood's transsexual friends. My favorite scene was the one where Bela Lugosi fought the giant fake octopus for one of Ed's movies. :)

errrrg....i watched a movie yesterday....oh no wait i remember now. i went on a xmen binge yesterday. the first one had good character development, second fleshed out a plot and used characters effectively, third one...i'm sorry but what was that? it wasn't bad nor was it good. just averagely average.

need to watch a serious man soon, rewatch no country for old men, and there will be blood as well.
maybe i'll just have a coen brothers marathon. some barton fink, blood simple, fargo...yes indeedy i likes it.

Remembering X-Men 2, I think I can't help but admit that the story took an interesting turn, making fine use of the racism-metaphor-in-a-superhero-story, and the characters were cool in both relatability and powers... but when I was watching it on TV, all I wanted out of it was to see the Storm, Rogue, Iceman, Shadowcat, and Pyro I know and love from the comics.

Especially in Storm's case it was frustrating, because only half of the appeal of Ororo are her weather powers... the other half is her impossible backstory as orphan/thief/goddess turned superheroine. That personality's so distinctive, it's really a shame they left it out of the movie.

Also, good old Cyclops was relegated to a minor role. :P And then they killed him at the beginning of the third movie! :( But, plus side, Nightcrawler's fight at the beginning of X2 was absolutely awesome.

Me, I saw 'Rebel Without A Cause' recently. I loved it.

Cool. I'm going to see that one next month, when I have monies and (hopefully) the cinema won't be too crowded at that point (going to watch it early, too, when most people are at work or in school).

Recently?

HP: Order of the Phoenix
Sherlock Holmes

Absolutely addicted to Harry Potter, though. I just went out and bought 4-6. Nice dump of $50.
Now I want to do a marathon of all six. xD

Melissa Auf der Maur's short film "Out Of Our Minds". It's part of the OOOM experience that includes her new album along with the film, the music video, and a comic. This woman is far too talented to not be a solo artist. Here's the trailer.

This week I watched Quentin Tarantino's "Reservoir Dogs" and today I saw a Swedish film called "Let the Right One In" about a 12 year old boy who discovers the girl who moved in next door to him is a vampire. These bring my total progress on the IMDb top 250 up to:

Note: The icon might change when I add another movie. I'm not sure yet, I just learned how to use it.
