She's using him as an example of the behaviour that someone with AS displays, not treating him as a real individual.

However, the fact is that there have always been people with this syndrome, although of course no one would have been given this diagnosis until comparatively recently. Accounts of such individuals can be found in historical documents, in fiction, and on television - Mr Bean is a perfect example.

Well let's see:

-He's not very empathetic of other people (many examples of this!)
-Completely misreads non-verbal cues (hehe, like the Christmas special where he gave his girlfriend a painting and a hook for Christmas because he thought that's what she implied she wanted earlier in the episode)
-He's ridiculously clumsy
-Any change in routine literally leads to disaster (ie every episode ever made)
-Consumed by a few unusual interests (his teddybear, his Mini, etc)
-Heightened sensitivity (ie the one where he can't sleep)

I think the diagnosis is clear...

Or maybe he's a f*****g comedy character, and those are common comedy tropes.

What's next, does Spongebob Squarepants have ADHD?

Yes you're right that they are common comedy tropes and I think it's probably a coincidence. I just think that Mr. Bean happens to be like an Aspie in a lot of ways. Because of that, he does give me a particularly good laugh since I can relate to him and his brilliantly eccentric perspective of everything.

Now, I think too many people are taking this discussion too seriously... Mr Bean is a comical character. Personally, I do not think he has it, I think he may be eccentric, but he does not really have social issues. It is his clusiness and charisma that make him funny, as with the Big Bang Theory, people laugh at the intellect of the characters, Mr Bean's intellect is non exsistant in the episodes, and films. A question I have - What year(s) is Mr Bean set in? It appears to be quite old in relation to the Dress Code of the public.

No. He's a character that is supposed to be funny. His personality isn't deep enough to have AS.

Well I seen a interview with the actor, he said, he evolved the character from watching 8 year olds do what they do, in the anarchistic ways of having fun and said what if a man behaved this way... which in point we all do sometimes, there is a very funny story of me and my mother in costco, involving involving a lightsabre waving it about.

I detest Mr Bean and don't find him funny at all.

There was another British comedy called "Some mothers do 'ave 'em" where the main character was a pathetic twerp who wrecked everything he touched.

I would like to lock both characters in a room and watch them destroy each other.
