Morning,

I've just been inspired to reacquire a copy of "Malcolm" (1986), an old Australian comedy about a chap I'd now identify as pretty obviously having aspie-hallmarks,
who is something of a mechanical genius, obsessed with trams for no good reason, and gets sacked from his job for building one from spare parts, before taking
on lodgers who happen to be bank robbers and get him to build them various intriguing gadgets for going around and robbing stuff.

I remember wanting to see it, based on the trailers, when I was a kid. Eventually caught it at some stupid time, one morning.

Excellent fillum, highly amusing, and I suspect it might appeal to a lot of you. Kid-safe.

I acquired it recently too, having seen it many years ago and loved it. :D I'd say that he was definitely well on the spectrum.

I like the Penguin Cafe Orchestra music too. :)

I watched another two films recently with probably aspie protagonists, and in one case a whole family of them:

"Reversal of Fortune", with Jeremy Irons, about Claus van Bulow, classic case of someone on or near the spectrum coming across as so cold and unemotional, aswell as making jokes in "poor taste", ( saved socially by money ), not being believed about their innocence. I wouldn't be surprised if his wife was too, or some kind of neurodivergent.

"The Accidental Tourist" with William Hurt: amazing aspie family. I loved it, but found the ending a wee bit too "directed"/consciously "positive"/"happy".

Haven't seen either of those two.

Malcolm is amazing though. Glad I saw it again.

Re: The Accidental Tourist
I loved when they all picked up the habit of clucking to show approval. I would have felt absolutely safe in that family.

If Netflix has it, it's moving to first position :)

Colin Friels was brilliant in Malcolm, I haven't seen it since about 1990 - might be time for a trip to Amazon... :D
