Emotional intensity, suspenseful intensity, or general intensity.

I watched James Cameron's Titanic on the Oxygen channel a few hours ago. It has always been one of my favorite movies, but I hadn't seen it in a while, so this was the first time I'd watched it in a long time.

Every time I watch that movie, I feel emotionally overwhelmed. The general intensity of the ship sinking at the end, and seeing everybody fighting to stay alive, is enough; but seeing people drowning and freezing to death in the cold water is really an emotional roller coaster for the viewer.

The soundtrack, I feel, complements the film perfectly and the music itself is either very emotional or very intense.

Anyway, enough of my rambling. What are some of the most intense movies you've ever seen?

28 days later, it scared me more than any other horror which I have ever seen. Most horror does not scare me at all but I found 28 days later to be a very disturbing film.

The 2008 "Rambo" is probably the most hardcore movie I've seen. I saw it in the theater twice, and I also own all four Rambo movies on blu-ray disc.

Scream was a very intense movie for me. People threatening to kill each other with knives and calling each other ret*ds is not my idea of a good movie.

I don't know about the MOST intense, but one intense film I can think of is The Piano Teacher...

A Clockwork Orange, is the only movie I can think of at the moment.
It was just twisted and awful, yet interesting.

"Salo, or the Last 120 Days of Sodom"
Extremely disturbing and perverted. You can read about it in Wikipedia.

Emotionally, Schindler's list. :|

As for purely scary, The Blair Witch Project. Hell, the ending still scares me when I think about it.

the original Bob Clark version of Black Christmas. Oh man, the scene where Olivia Hussey is slowly walking up the stairs to find her friends made my stomach drop.

Sweeney Todd was intense the first time I saw it because I wasn't accustomed to watching graphic depictions of throats being slit. In subsequent viewings, I focus more on the characters.

Inception was really intense too, though for completely different reasons.

I can take a lot, so I usually need to watch pretty visceral films to really FEEL something.

"Irreversible" did it for me. Screwed me up mentally for a good week!

"Dogville" very unorthodox movie

"The Color Purple" Times I re-watched it I knew the parts where I would cry and just started crying early.

Yeah, Dogville. Three hours of this woman suffering and at the end her gangster father razes the place like some kind of Old Testament justice.

I think probably the most intense movie I've seen is the remake of Halloween directed by rockstar, Rob Zombie and it is a horror film.

This film has a lot of blood in it and the death scenes are pretty brutal, so it was just disturbing. The original however wasn't even close to being violent and it was a good movie to watch. The remake is alright, but its too violent and focused too much on the sex and violence.

Don't know about 'most intense' but the upper end that I can think of right now:

Training Day
Running Scared (the Paul Walker movie - not the comedy)
No Country For Old Men
House of 1000 Corpses / Devil's Rejects

Some others that at least deserve honorable mention:

Sin City
Four Brothers
Belly (mostly just how Hype Williams filmed it - you feel like you're as baked as they are)
Romper Stomper
Midnight Express
Kids
Alpha Dog
Mystic River
Road To Perdition

I might be able to think of a few more honorable mentions but that's probably it for now.
