I prefer Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, because I love Tim Burton's directing and storytelling and everything. :D

Same here. This movie is one of my four major special interests, and I've been obsessed with it for almost an entire year. The biggest reason for that is because I absolutely adore Johnny Depp's take on Willy Wonka. His effeminate appearance and mannerisms make him highly attractive to me. I also love his cheerful personality and biting sense of humor. So basically everything about him... Yeah...

The Tim Burton version is closer to the book than the original, and while Johnny Depp's Willy Wonka is a bit off compared to the book version (Gene Wilder seemed a little closer to the book Wonka, save for his outburst at the end), he still does a great performance. Freddy Highmore, Johnny Depp, Christopher Lee, Deep Roy...

Has anyone noticed how ubiquitous Deep Roy is in science fiction and fantasy? He's appeared in Doctor Who, Star Wars, Star Trek and Blake's 7. Okay, usually he's under make-up, but he's been around.

I really admire Johnny's acting ability and the fact that he can look and behave like radically different characters in each movie he plays.

For the record, my other major interests besides the Chocolate Factory one are Alice in Wonderland, Edward Scissorhands and Sweeney Todd. They all have something in common and it's not just Tim Burton.

I do too, and I know what you mean. A childish lunatic in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, a strange, drunken pirate in Pirates of the Caribbean, a psychopath in Secret Window... he's a bit crazy in all of his characters. He's probably my favorite actor, he's great.

I love Alice in Wonderland and Sweeney Todd! I've seen Sweeney Todd about 5 times, and Alice only twice, I need to see both again. I just got Edward Scissorhands a week ago, and have yet to see it; I'm a bit ashamed to say I never have yet. The Nightmare Before Christmas I also love, but unfortunately no Johnny Depp in it. :(

I like both versions, but I think I like the original version the best. I grew up on that movie (even though it was released twenty years before I was born), so it's kind of special to me.

They both have a distinctive charm, so I like them both. The first one has the song "Pure imagination", which really speaks to me. You may have noticed that I have lyrics from that song in my signature. Johnny Depp is quirky and I like Oompa Loompas songs in both of them.

The original by far. I mean c'mon anyone but Wilder in the role of Wonka just doesn't fit.... not that for the Burton adaptation Depp wasn't a good choice for Wonka.

The original.

I'm not a fan of Johnny Depp.

I enjoy both movies and the book.
Willy Wonka has always been one of my favorite fictional characters. I guess because I too find myself in a world of pure imagination.
The only problem I have is with the Depp version. I hate how they gave Wonka a backstory. It takes all the fun and mystery out of the character and turns him into just another kid who's got issues with his daddy.

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory- 1. the original book is called Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, so name it after the book you're
basing it on for crying out loud!
2. Charlie's the main character, so even though Willy Wonka is the 1 who owns the factory, name
it after Charlie.
3. Take that Simonono! You're wrong!

Therefore, the real title of the movie should be Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
