Hey, everybody. :) I'm a fan of many British comedies of the past few decades, and I thought it would be a good idea to create this thread so like-minded people could discuss this subject. So, what are everybody's favourite sitcoms, sketches and stand-up routines?

To help get this thread started, I'll post some favourites of my own:

- The Good Life

- I'm Alan Partridge

- The Office

- Monty Python's Flying Circus

- The Thick of It

- Fawlty Towers

- The Day Today

By the way, I'd be happy to talk to anyone who has a specific interest in any of the above shows. :)

Well, I like Fawlty Towers and Monty Python's Flying Circus, and I have enjoyed The Office before (the UK version, haven't seen the US version), but you missed out a lot of good ones, like Blackadder, The Young Ones, Bottom, Black Books, and The League of Gentlemen.

I havn't seen too many British Comedies, there was Wallice & Grummit (did I spell that right?) which I thought were pretty cute when I watched them, but that was so long ago I don't even remember the episodes I watched.

No Mr. Bean? How can there be no Mr. Bean?

I am quite fond of everything Rowan Atkinson related, so certainly intend to get around to watching Black Adder someday.

Here's a couple other funny British comedies that I remember enjoying (I'm sure there are plenty of others, but they do not currently come to mind):

(Atkinson again... hey, there's a sequel coming out this year!)

Using wikipedia (list of British comedy films) to jog my memory, I also found these to be funny:
- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/An_America ... _in_London
- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Are_You_Being_Served%3F
- the original Pink panther movie
- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keeping_Up_Appearances
- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Mouse_That_Roared
- I haven't seen the actual movie "Keeping Mum," but I thought the trailer I saw for it was funny

- I also heard about this show a couple of weeks ago and plan to check it out: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0487831/ ("The IT Crowd")

Yes, Black Books and The IT Crowd have been recommended to me a number of times. :) I must make sure to check them out sometime soon...

For British comedy films, I don't think you can beat Withnail and I:

I'm also quite keen on some more old-fashioned titles, such as a number of Ealing Studios comedies and some old Carry On films. Any other fans?

I like older British comedies. Such as Porridge, Only Fools and Horses , Waiting for God, Kepping up Appearances, Open all Hours and One Foot in the Grave, just to start. :D

I LOVED the Good Life!! !
Of course, I like Monty Python.
I think Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant are brilliant, but, I can't watch the office because it's too painful (Extras is great, though!)
I like the River Cottage series.
My hubby loves Fawlty towers, but, I just couldn't get into it.
Love love love Black Adder.
Vicar of Dibley's always amusing.

Agree with Gemstone123 about Porrige and Only Fools and Horses

I haven't seen most of the others mentioned.

My kids like Wallace and Grommit, Chicken Run, Valiant, Fireman Sam, pretty much all of the other shows and movies they've seen.

The not-so-good animated Fireman Sam or the original?

One I meant to mention before was The Royle Family (hilarious, I can't believe I liked it as much as I did).

My husband also recommends (he's the British one in the family):
Rising Damp
Captain Pugwash and the Magic Roundabout
