do you think george lucas is ever going to release the original theatrical edition of the original trilogy? also, was he serious when he said he wanted people to forget about the original theatrical versions and only remember the special editions?

When he realizes how much money there is to be made, yes.

No idea. It's hard to sort out the truth from his BS. How can we remember them when he keeps changing them every few years?

There was a recent "special edition" release that included the original theatrical release on the second disc. I'm letting my kids watch the SE version of "Star Wars" - I'm saving that original goodness for myself! :)

From what I've read, they're poor-quality Laserdisc tranfers and aren't even anamorphic. I say "from what I've read" because there's no way I'm finding out for myself by giving Lucas any of my money.

He's done it, there is versions on the dvd, on the special edition, with the bells and whistles, and the un-edited cut on 2 discs... Don't know so much as for the New Blue Ray, a Girl on my Facebook, who poses half naked all the time, in her pictures, is apprently going to have a serious Nerdgasm while she watches... like I needed to know that

Not to sound like a sadist or anything, but we probably won't see them until after Lucas passes away. Lucas has pretty much already spoken his mind about the original cuts and has virtually disavowed them. I think he even refered to the Laserdisc transfers which were in the last DVD release as a bonus feature. *rolls eyes*

If Lucas is crazy enough to supposedly believe in the Mayan apocalypse next year, then he's crazy enough to not give the fans what they want no matter how loud the demands are and how much we're willing to pay for the original cuts. Whomever inheirets the Lucasfilm empire, however, is more likely to have an ear for business and popular demand.

Okay, I can't blame him there. I'd try to hide that, if it had been my fault...

As others posted, the OT is available on DVD in non-anamorphic 2.35:1 letterbox within a 4:3 frame.

I own it and treasure it because I have a feeling Lucas was drunk or something when he gave the go ahead to release it. If he could, I bet he would sneak into every OT owners homes like the Grinch and swipe it back.

I also own the 'Holiday Special' on DVD!! !! Good to see other nerds out there.
Got that off eBay years ago along with a collection of original TV commercials for the action figures and toys from the 70's.
