Hello, My name is Eric Grayson, I am an Eddie in the New York City Cast of the Rocky Horror Picture Show and a reporter for WNYC. I am putting together a piece on the Rocky Horror Picture Show. Rocky Horror has always been a place where people who feel like outsiders can gather and find community. It strikes me that this can be especially true for people with some sort of diagnosis, from spectrum disorders (autism / aspergers) to bipolar to just plain “crazy.” While this is by no means saying that everyone who does Rocky meets this description, or even that the majority of people do... it seems to be a place where these types of people have just as much success as everyone else.
Does this describe your experience? Would you be willing to share your stories?
If so, please message me.

Am a boomer who was in college when Rocky Horror first became a cult phenom.

My sister and I stood in line for the movie.

Still love it. That was decades ago in the seventies.

Only a few years ago I was hanging with my girlfriend and some young friends of her daughter's boyfriend- hard hats who all worked together in construciton, and we were surfin the dial.

I happened ot see "the Rocky Horror Picture Show" so I voted we "watch that".

The two guys asked "oh, is it good?"

I was thrown because I had assumed that anyone my age or younger who was remotely hip would know from rocky horror. But younger than boomers are apparently new to it.

"Is it ,,,,goood"? I replied- pondering just exactly how to respond to the question.

Then said "lets just say that its AN EXPERIENCE. Everyone should experience it-atleast once."

Two hours later when the final credits were running I heard a deadpan voice go "you're RIGHT. It IS an experience."

Both of the guys still starring straight ahead as if in a state of shock both eyes still bugging out.

I said "I guess it was ahead of its time."

One of them said " I STILL havent caught up to it!"

Back in the seventies I had friend who was paid a few buck to ride his moped into the theatre at the moment that Meatloaf drives his Harley onto the screen every night for a couple weeks.

He was also into the film in a big way.

He latter came out of the closet.

So gay and transgender folks do identify with the movie for obvious reasons.

Whether aspies per se do or not I dont know.

I had a roommate who was a cast member in Rocky my first year of college. We would get drunk and watch the film more than once per week. I was hesitant at first, but it really grows on you (much like the transformation undergone by the main characters).

Never been to any of the theater showings, but I've seen the movie on DVD multiple times and I love it. Dr. Frank N. Furter is one of my all-time favorite movie villains.

Who can resist Frank N Furter with his sexual vibe, red lips and lingerie? Janet and Brad certainly couldnt... I loved the music, specially the "Time warp".

I love this movie!

I wasn't a cast member, but you can say I'm a fan.

I've been going to see the touring show for the past 5 years or so and love it. Last year, for the first time, we dressed up and we took it really seriously. My husband went as Frank and I wasn't anyone in particular, just a burlesque version of me, with Frank make-up. We got a lot of attention as it was a Tuesday and the people in costume were in the minority (Friday/Saturday tends to be different). It wasn't on this year, unfortunately. If I can pluck up the courage, I'll post a photo.

I was a fan in college and attended midnight shows several times, and was friends with several cast members. It's definitely a subculture that allows greater leeway for people to be themselves, and the first person I saw play Brad was later diagnosed with AS.

Rocky Horror is still going on?
I thought it died out in the 90's

I was a fan back in 1988.

I love this movie too. My favorite song is "Sweet Transvestite." I even sing it like Tim Curry does.

I was a stand-in for the lead role, but never got the chance to perform. This was an off-campus college production, shown only once at midnight on Hallowe'en.

I really wanted to portray Riff-Raff.
