There are a few Scottish comedy classics. My all time favourite show is Naked Video (from which Rab C Nesbitt spun off, but I've never watched that). I'm not sure how well the humour translates and some of it was quite topical, so might not be understood by younger people. These sketches should be fine for everyone.

I also like:
The IT Crowd (goes without saying)
Father Ted (British made but set in Ireland)
Waiting for God
One Foot in the Grave
Keeping Up Appearances
Some Mothers Do Have 'em
The Young Ones (don't think my parents approved)
The Kenny Everett Show
Scotch and Wry (Hogmanay specials)

I'm sure there are many more. I'll come back to this thread later.

This list can't be complete without Harry Enfield.

I liked this, especially the call-centre rabbit, but it is in a bit of an odd animation format.

From Videosurf summary :
'I Am Not an Animal' is an animated comedy series telling the tale of highly intelligent animals rescued from a vivisectionist laboratory and forced to live on their own.

I don't know if it has been mentioned yet, but I'd also recommend:

Peep Show (especially the earlier seasons)

The Fast Show (not too sure about the rehash though)

Knowing me, Knowing you with Alan Partridge

The Armstrong and Miller Show (has some very clever sketches)

Does anyone know why a season (or series) for every British show consists of 6-9 episodes? I know that for most American shows, a season consists of 22 episodes.

Anyone mention "Mighty Boosh" or "Garth Merenghi's Dark Place"?

Rather fond of both, myself.

I like a lot of the older British Comedies.
Here are my favorites:

Are you Being Served?
Last of the Summer Wine
Keeping Up Appearances
Open All Hours
Grace & Favour
Bean

Though they are not comedies, but I'm a big fan of the The Avengers, The Saint, The New Avengers, and The Persuaders.

Shooting Stars had some great moments. Especially some of the sketches.
This one's called 'Jane Hairs'.

I am a fan of British comedy, and have been since a child. Rather than list individual episodes I would like to list (in no particular order) five of my favourites. They are:

Monty Python's Flying Circus
Benny Hill
Are You Being Served?
Keeping Up Appearances
Vicar of Dibley

Now, I would like to list what I consider to be an incredibly annoying British comedy that I cannot stand (note---this is my opinion based on how I react to this comedy):

All Creatures Great and Small---I find many of the characters voices (especially when yelling) obnoxious. I also get tired of the long drawn out scenes featuring annoying (in my opinion) sounds (music, animal sounds, etc.). My wife likes this comedy and turns it on in our bedroom to watch before going to sleep. I cannot focus on reading while it is on. In fact, I am struggling to write this reply while it is on. Agony!! ! I cannot stand this show. Did I already say that? Anyway, if I didn't, I cannot stand this show!! !

Oh yes, I loved Reeves and Mortimer, I think 'The Smell Of' was their best period.
