Someone in my family wanted to get me something for Christmas, and because they know me well enough to know what types of movies I like yet don't really know a good movie from a bad movie... well lets just say he got me one DVD with 6 fantasy genre movies and one with 8 horror genre movies. He's got the right idea about what types of movies I perfer, but the thing is these are all kind of terrible movies. I mean you know it's a collection of crappy horror movies when one of the titles is "Evil Bong".

Yet suprisingly this present doesn't seem to be such a waste after all, because of the website The Agony Booth which showed me just how entertaining a bad movie can be, I decided to keep these movies and later watch them to see if the obvious cheesiness in all these movies is as funny as I think it's going to be. I haven't watched any yet but since my sister loves laughing at cheesy stuff as much as I do I may wait until she comes down to visit so we can watch some of these together. :P

Anyone think it's weird to keep movies because they are cheesy? I've never really done it before but I may make it into a new hobby for myself. 8)

I recently called The Room the greatest movie ever made, so I think I can relate to you a bit. :) The older I get, the less I think that a great movie necessarily has to be a good one.

Take a look at one of my "movie a day" topics in this forum. It seems like all I ever do is watch sh***y movies. I hate most of them, but some old trashy movies are quite enjoyable. If they weren't, Mystery Science Theater 3000 would have never existed. Movies like The Brain That Wouldn't Die, The Beast of Yucca Flats, and Maniac are extremely entertaining, despite being some of the worst movies ever made. I like having DVD copies of them around, on cheap public domain discs with awful video quality, where they belong. Those DVD sets with 50 movies for ten bucks are awesome.

Yeah you're right, some of my favorite movies are ones I would have never thought twice about watching if somebody hadn't forced me to see them. But like the other poster said sometimes a really bad movie can be more entertaining than a realy good one. Bad movies are especially fun when you watch them with friends and can make fun of the terrible acting and cheesy special effects together. :P

These are the two DVDs I got and the movies that are on them by the way:

Fantasy & Action

The Beastmaster
Beowulf
DragonQuest
Midnight Chronicles
Merlin and the War of the Dragons
Warriors of Virtue: The Return to Tao

The Midnight Horror Collection

The Legend of Sorrow Creek
Prom Night
Below
I Am Omega
Evil Bong
Merdian
Demonic Toys
Decadent Evil

Even the titles of these sound horribly cheesy. XD I'm going to try and watch some of them tonight just to see how bad they are and who knows, I might actually like some of these movies. ;)

Beware of any movie made by The Asylum. It may seem like fun to watch a bad rip-off of Alien vs. Predator called Alien vs. Hunter or a bad rip-off of The Day the Earth Stood Still called The Day the Earth Stopped, but I've seen several of them and can tell you that they don't even have the common decency to be bad enough to be hilarious. They're just boring and bland.

I think there's a few of them on there made by The Asylum. I'll take your warning and expect them to be horrible boring movies, but I'm still going to watch them all just because I can. :P

Speaking of which, is I Am Omega some kind of zombie movie? The boxart on the DVD case makes it look that way, but the description on the back describes the monsters as "mutants". :?

It's a rip-off of I Am Legend. The main character is the last man alive in a world over-run by creatures... vampires in the original book, mutants in the 1971 film (The Omega Man), zombies in the Will Smith movie.

Ah OK, I thought the title sounded a bit like I Am Legend (a movie I've never seen before). I guess even though they're the "boring" kind of bad movies, the fact that they can completely rip off titles of similar movies is funny in itself.

I assure you, it's more fun knowing that a movie like I Am Omega exists than to actually watch it. Have you ever heard someone say that a boring movie is much worse than a bad one? Movies like The Brain That Wouldn't Die, The Beast of Yucca Flats, and Maniac aren't boring at all. They're so ridiculously awful that you can't help but laugh at them. The Asylum doesn't make movies like that. They're bad, but they never go over the top. They usually spend a lot of time on characters walking through forests or abandoned factories (places where they didn't need permits to shoot) just talking and talking and talking. By all means, try watching one if you want to, but I promise you won't want to waste your time on another.

Well maybe the other movies on the DVDs will be funny instead of boring. "The Evil Bong" sounds especially hilarious for a horror movie. :P

"The Room" is the epitome of so-bad-it's-good.

Another is "Vampire's Kiss" with Nicholas Cage. Mmm, just about anything with Nicholas Cage :)

I decided to start off with Warriors of Virtue: The Return to Tao, appearantly it's a sequel to another movie called Warriors of Virtue. I don't know if the first one was a bad movie or not, but watching the first few minutes of this one was awful. It's not just the terrible acting and cheesy special effects used during fight scenes, but the two main characters are complete douchebags. They're your typical "American kids who travel to Asia and don't quite get the culture of the country" kind of characters, for example there's a scene where they are eating in a Chinese resturant in Beijing and they ask for "normal" American food like pizza and cheeseburgers and all they get is "weird" Chinese food such as fish heads. Then there's the fact that they seem to be constantly bumping into stuff and breaking it like during a scene when they are playing on their bikes in a crowded street and end up knocking over several fruit stands and people, and just ride away as a bunch of angry Chinese denizens throw fruits at them. Like they say on The Agony Booth: "Our heroes ladies and gentlemen".

I didn't even get to finish the movie last night, but the first few minutes of it was pretty bad. I may finish the rest today just to see if the rest of the film is as bad as the beginning. :P
