A couple of quick notes. I'm excluding ones that are confirmed for future release dates later this year (Bond, Indy, Jaws, ET) as well as recent theatrical releases awaiting a home video release. I'm also allowing for ties since some films will be on the list for similar reasons. Enough talk. Here we go:
10. It Happened One Night: The only "Big 5" Oscar winner to not be on Blu.
9. Hitchcock's other Universal classics (Rear Window, Vertigo): I'd include The Birds, but Amazon has it for pre-order.
8. Sunset Boulevard: An essential film noir classic.
7. Shane: Blu-Ray westerns have some of the best looking backgrounds.
6. True Lies: WAY overdue for another release, Blu Ray OR DVD. Still, I can see why Cameron shelved this action-comedy (thanks a lot, Osama)
5. Miyazaki's classics (Spirited, Mononoke, Howl, Kiki, Totoro): They're getting there, but they just take a long time.
4. Schindler's List: Spielberg's biggest film yet to make the jump. Still a difficult film to watch and HD won't make it easier, but it'd be nice to have an option.
3. Disney's animated vault (Aladdin, Little Mermaid, Peter Pan): See #5.
2. Lawrence Of Arabia: The one essential epic yet to appear on Blu. Since the film's 50th anniversary is this year, Columbia's making a mistake to not cash in.
1. The Abyss: Cameron's best film not to make the HD jump. With the aquatic scenery and early CGI effects, the possibilities are endless.
Anyway, this is just my opinion. Any other thoughts?
