top 3 in random order (cant decide offcourse)
forrest gump 1994
green mile 1999 (no one have mentioned it here yet, why? WHY? (The last why was theatractial) :)
stand by me 1987 (very good told story)

2 are tom hanks, 2 are written by steven king, and i think 2 are spielberg, ( not sure if green mile actually are but i guess it is, and i dont want to google it now, because then my special interest kicks in, and i am stucked on wiki or google for 6-36 hours :)

when it comes to lawrence, see it! its worth it, if you must, see only an hour or so at the time, it is a really good movie :D

Blade Runner—Beautiful, symbolically rich film that leaves the viewer with hours worth of things to contemplate.

2001: A Space Odyssey—See above.

Il mio nome è Nessuno (My Name is Nobody)—Fairly obscure Spaghetti Western Comedy that most people write off as silly slapstick... There’s plenty of slaptick to be sure, but there’s also some good thought provoking satire here too. The movie has a lot to say about the descent of the Western into an exploitation genre, and some worthy thoughts on the nature and need for heroes... The cinematography is flooringly beautiful too.

Hmm.... I guess I like thought provoking, visually striking films.

I've posted this before, but it's such a great trailer for a great movie...

Not the best, but my personal favourite is Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance. It's a Korean revenge thriller by Park Chan-Wook, who also directed Oldboy and JSA.

Save the Green Planet is awesome too.

I'm a movie freak, and I've seen thousands, so it's tough for me to pick the best ones, or even my favorites on specific day. But as of today, and in no particular order --
Passion of Joan of Arc -- dir. Carl Dreyer
Seventh Seal -- dir. Ingmar Bergman
Throne of Blood -- dir. Akira Kurosawa
Rear Window -- dir. Alfred Hitchcock
Wings of Desire -- dir. Wim Wenders
Cinema Paradiso -- dir. Guiseppe Tornatore
Amarcord -- dir. Federico Fellini
The Godfather -- dir. Francis Coppola
Raiders of the Lost Ark -- dir. Steven Spielberg
M -- dir. Fritz Lang
Metropolis -- dir. Fritz Lang
Road Warrior -- dir. George Miller
Gladiator -- dir. Ridley Scott
Sunrise -- dir. F.W. Murnau
Blue Angel -- dir. Josef von Sternberg
Rebecca -- dir. Alfred Hitchcock
Notorious -- dir. Alfred Hitchcock
Ballad of A Soldier --
Umberto D -- dir. Vittoria de Sica
Ikiru -- dir. Akira Kurosawa
Casablanca -- dir. Michael Curtiz
Sunset Blvd. -- dir. Billy Wilder
Paths of Glory -- dir. Stanley Kubrick
Frankenstein -- dir. James Whale
Taxi Driver -- dir. Martin Scorcese
American Graffiti - dir. George Lucas
Last Picture Show - dir. Peter Bogdanovich

That's all I can think of at the moment. I'm sure I'll have an edit or two here when I remember some that absolutely HAVE to be recognized that I forgot. :)

Forrest Gump

Aliens
Almost Famous
500 Days of Summer
Gattaca (I think that's how you spell it)

Indiana Jones series (1 and 3 primarily)
Total Recall (original!)

I'll think of more later.
