I'm from the UK but I do watch and probably prefer the US shows. Mostly cartoons old and a few news. Don't get me wrong I like some of the UK shows, though their mostly sitcoms e.g. Only Fools and Horses.

I've definitely gotten into British programming over the summer. Watched every episode of Doctor Who since 2005, watched Robin Hood until it sucked, and all of Sherlock so far. Just getting into The IT Crowd.

I watch a lot of US shows, but some of my favorites are from the UK: IT Crowd, Black Books, Spaced, Little Britain, Dr. Who, etc.

From Australia, you should watch any of the Jon Safran shows, especially "Race Relations" and "Jon Safran vs. God."

From Canada, there is the "Red Green Show."

Many of my favorites are UK. I'd have to say that there's a lot of crap on both sides but they both have some good things to offer.

Mixed bag for me. Its usually not that its hard to get into UK shows, but they tend to be obscure over here in the U.S. so its difficult to find out about what's good. British shows that I've liked:

Absolutely Fabulous
Little Britain
Luther
No Heroics (too short-lived)
Let Them Eat Cake

But then there've been some where I tried and found it very difficult - Law & Order UK edition was a good example - same premise as the American show which I loved, but I found it tough going because some of the characters had for me very thick accents and were difficult to understand.

But some U.S. shows are tough too, just from a story-line perspective. I just recently watched all of Tudors - ended up loving it but almost gave up at the start because the story seemed too slow.

Seconded, on both counts. On occasion, I'll see it on BBC America, with the captioning on. :)

I like both. I hate "reality" tv shows in America so I do not watch them. There are few shows I watch anyway. I can only watch British shows through BBC America through cable. There are many I like from what the show on that one channel. When I was a child I watch many PBS shows that were British before cable tv and many shows I enjoyed as a kid where on Nickelodian and many of those were filmed in Canada. Its a toss up, America puts to much money into the entertainment industry but that doesn't make the majority of it quaility work. I am an American.

Most of the shows in the US suck to me. I find foreign TV shows more entertaining, because they have more substance to me.

Especially Doctor Who. :D

Sometimes I wander over to my grandmothers just to watch BBC America. UK not only tends to have better quality, but offers more variety in their genres.
Sample of Sci-Fi programs:

Recent US: Star Trek

Recent UK: Doctor Who, Being Human, Jeckle, Primeval, Torchwood, Quatermass, and Red Dwarf.

There's really no comparison.

I prefer shows from the UK. Their plots seem to be character-driven, rather than the other way around (like American TV). The actors also seem to be chosen for their acting abilities, rather than their appearances. Plot devices have more to with advancing the plot, rather than with filling a plot hole.

The only things the yanks do better are CGI, special effects and makeup, but that only makes American productions more visually appealing than intellectually stimulating.

In general I prefer UK shows. They just look more realistic to me. Honestly, I think part of it is the lighting used in the shows. I live in a very cloudy area of the US, and UK shows just look less obnoxiously bright to me. Also, I like how houses in UK shows look lived in; they have dirt and scratches and wearing- signs of age. I also enjoy the variety of format used in UK shows, as opposed to the standard format of US shows, which I think limits how far you can take the story in terms of length and artistic quality.
