Special Agent Will Graham is on the Autistic Spectrum

and he's played by Hugh Dancy, of Adam

AND, hannibal lecter is played by Mads Mikkelsen

I think I'm in heaven.

Yikes...the only person I like seeing as Hannibal Lecter is Anthony Hopkins. He IS Hannibal the Cannibal. :)

I couldn't understand a word the Mads guy was saying. I want to like the show but I think it was a bad choice of actor.

It's a shame that I'm such a hopeless Sherlock Holmes addict, because I was forced to watch Elementary instead. But I did switch over to Hannibal during the commercials, and I was pleasantly surprised by what I saw. The three main actors -- Hugh Dancy, Mads Mikkelsen, and Laurence Fishburne -- play off each other very nicely. They seem to be going more for the character than for the blood and gore, which is nice to see. And I like how Mikkelsen underplays Lecter instead of going over the top like Hopkins. The character has been a joke for over a decade, but Mikkelsen is making him real again. Kudos to everyone involved. I'll be sure to pick up the first season on DVD or Blu-ray so I can catch up on what I missed due to the show being in the exact same timeslot as Elementary.

I actually thought Brian Cox made a better Hannibal than Anthony Hopkins did.

I'll be checking this new series out on Hulu later this week.

Me too. Hopkins is a freak right from the beginning, but Cox seems like a kindly old uncle, and you only gradually realize that something is very wrong. Hopkins gloats in his evilness, while Cox seems right at home, almost bored, with what he is. It's a terrific performance.

I just caught Hannibal on Xfinity On Demand today, and while it may not have lived up to the movies, it was entertaining enough. I had never read Red Dragon, so I have no way of telling how Will Graham had been portrayed, but the television version certainly bore little resemblance to the movie version of the character. In the movie, Will Graham had a wife and child, rather than a collection of stray dogs. I did like Mads Mikkelsen in the title role, as there was a sort of creepiness barely contained beneath his cultured, professional veneer.

It's quite ironic that Hugh Dancy has now played two ASD characters (he was previously the lead in the Asperger's-themed romantic film Adam)

Couldnt imagine how anyone could sustain the Lector story any further. But from what you all are saying it does sound kinda interesting.

Someday they sould have Hannibal Lector meet Dexter.

I really liked the first episode. I've only seen Silence Of The Lambs, and never read any of the books, but that was an interesting start for the show. I liked the line about why Will doesn't like eye contact. Felt very familiar.

I'm worried about getting too invested in the show though just because apparently the premiere didn't do too well ratings-wise... Except it's NBC so the low ratings for the premiere aren't a death sentence maybe? Hopefully good word of mouth helps the show out some though. Everyone I know that's seen it enjoyed it pretty much.

interesting , will check it out . silence of the lambs and hannibal were excellent with quality acting and production . would be interseting to see how a series is adapted but have to agree , not really sure about reinventing this again .

Remember, this is a "prequel" of sorts to the films, so it would make sense for Dr Lecter's behavior to be a bit more subtle/understated. He's still masquerading as a respectable (non-criminal) doctor--but yes, the creepiness is oozing out of every pore. Mads Mikkelsen is doing a great job.

Hugh Dancy as Will--yep, you can see him struggling with everything, really. The way his mind works--"gift or curse"? (for those of you who were fans of MONK).

Seems promising. I just hope it doesn't go the way of AWAKE.

I'll have to find that online and watch it. I don't have cable right now, only Netflix. I really like Hannibal even though he's a monster. There's just something about the character. Of course if he were real he could easily suck me into his lair and probably have me for supper, but somehow I don't think he would. I don't usually like the serial killers in movies or tv, but I like him.

Hugh Dancy's married to Claire Danes, who is most famous right now for playing somebody with bipolar disorder on Homeland
