I dont watch family guy so I dont know if this is a joke or not but it might be a good idea to place a spoiler disclaimer in the title.

I haven't followed Family Guy for a long time, but not even a day is too soon to reveal spoilers like that.

I just read about this on the front page of CNN so it may be pointless to avoid spoilers. However, I stopped watching Family Guy long before I threw my tv away, but Brian and Stewie were the only things I liked about it. Can't quite picture the dynamics of the show without him.

You kinda spoiled it for me there dude. I live in the UK and that episode hasn't even aired yet and I just had to go on wikipedia to find out what happened. I guess I shouldn't be surprised as I was sorta expecting this but wow I still can't believe it happened and now they have a new dog. Seriously what the heck. However there maybe a light in the distant. According to Wikipedia:
Fan petition
Within hours of the episode's air on November 24, 2013, a petition for the resurrection of Brian Griffin directed towards series creator, Seth MacFarlane and Fox Broadcasting Company emerged on Change.org. The petition reads "Brian Griffin was an important part of our viewing experince. He added a witty and sophisticated element to the show. Family Guy and Fox Broadcasting will lose viewers if Brian Griffin is not brought back to the show." and within hours of its launch had already gained over 2,000 signatures, making the petition one of the fastest growing entertainment-related petition on the site. The petition was started by Family Guy fan, Aaron Thompson, who also started a Facebook page called "R.I.P. Brian Griffin From Family Guy in an effort to get MacFarlane to bring back Brian Griffin.

Also I was looking at the page that tells us the episodes of season 12 and at the bottom there are two upcoming episodes that haven't been aired yet called Brian's a Bad Father and Brian's Got Back. That's all I know for now but maybe not all hope is lost. Just remember I said maybe.

It's a stunt. McFarlane has no intention of leaving the character who holds the whole ridiculous series together remain dead. Brian will be back within a few episodes. Count on it. Its only a cartoon, after all.

Hallelujah! I hated Brian, he was such a Gary Stu. I hated it when the episodes revolved around him and one of my favorite Family Guy moments was when Quagmire chewed him out.

I think Willard's right. As Brian has been pretty much the mouthpiece of Seth McFarlane's views over the last 7 or so years, I consider it likely they'll reintroduce him, maybe as early as the next episode. 'Stewie Kills Lois'/'Lois Kills Stewie' also incoprorated some shock value twists, though the most substantial of those were reversed by the end of either installment of that two-parter. South Park tried to get rid of both Kenny and Mr. Garrison in the past, and none of that ended up being permanent. Seems that only supporting characters kick the bucket indefinitely (think Diane Simmons, think Maude Flanders, think Ms. Crabtree).

Next time might want to learn to create a spoiler tag.

I've signed the petition yesterday.

If that idiotic new dog takes Brian's place, I don't know if I'll keep watching the show. I was really shocked and angry yesterday!

I kept expecting Brian to be resurrected as I kept watching, and kept watching... till the credits rolled.
I can't believe they actually dropped a major character! More major in fact that either of the Griffin children! And replaced him with what? An Italian-American stereotype? A big part of the show was Brian's intellectual banter, and I simply don't expect to see that element in the show anymore.
RIP Brian Griffin.
(Sigh) I guess I'll still watch the show, though it won't ever be the same.

I agree, I have real doubts that Brian is actually gone forever. This seems like it has publicity stunt written all over it. Anyone remember the death of Superman, or the Archie marrying Veronica thing?
