Aguirre, the Wrath of God

A strange, off kilter movie directed by Werner Herzog which is famous for the behind the scenes problems during shooting.

What qualifies something as a "cult classic?" I see a lot of movies/shows on these lists that are not old enough by conventional standards to be categorized as either a "cult" or "classic."
' Is this just a comparative survey of individual favorites?
Or am I just, once again, taking things too literally?

I really like the "Darkman" films, plus "The Rocketeer", "The Phantom", and "The Shadow".

Serenity ( as well as the show that preceded it )

Not sure if any of these count but:

Scott Pilgrim Vs The World
Transformers: The Movie ( as in the animated movie from the 80's. You know, the GOOD one. )
The Mask

I never quite got what constitutes a "cult classic" TBH...

- Dude, Where's my Car? I must have watched this one at least 50 times. It may seem like a dumb stoner flick to some, but to myself, it is a landmark achievement in absurdity. I love this movie.

- The Big Lebowski The first time I watched this, I wasn't quite sure if I enjoyed it or not, but after reading a summary of it on Wikipedia, the pieces all started falling into place. Anyway, this film is a classic, with great characters and a plotline so convoluted your brain will explode if you actually try to comprehend it as you're watching it.

- Tron To this day, it amazes me how they were able to pull off the CGI that they used in this film all the way back in 1982. Even without the impressive CGI, the premise is still pretty awesome; essentially, an ex-programmer whose programs were stolen from him by his former employer sets out to hack into their mainframe and take back what is his, only to find himself embroiled in a conflict happening within the mainframe itself.

- Wargames Another classic 80s hacker flick, featuring what is quite possibly one of the coolest retro home computer setups I've ever seen. A great tale of a teenaged hacker who unwittingly hacks into a military computer system, challenges said computer system to a game of "Global Thermonuclear War", and almost starts World War III.

- The Princess Bride To be truthful, it's been years since I've watched this, but from what I remember, it's awesome. It's got adventure, TONS of quotable lines, great swordfighting scenes, and memorable characters. Need I say more?

and to name some others that I don't have the brain power to come up with descriptions for right now :P

- Napoleon Dynamite
- Office Space
- THX 1138

No, you are not taking these things too literally. The people posting just love to put up lists, regardless of content.

Yes.

If anyone hasn't seen, "A Boy and his Dog, and you like films like Mad Max 2, and Clockwork Orange, you will probably love this movie. It's about a young guy (Don Johnson from Miami Vice), that has a psychic connection with his dog, who helps him get women and survive in a post atomic wasteland. It has one of the best endings in science fiction, but is not well liked by feminists for reasons that will become obvious. In the author's defence, he later wrote a similar story from the woman's perspective.

Harlan Ellison wrote ABAHD, and also wrote, "City on the Edge of Forever," which is widely regarded as one of the best of the original Trek episodes.

There are many good ones posted and I like pretty much all of them. One I didn't see is Donnie Darko (2001), and is Drive (2011) a cult classic?
