Rewatched the silent German film The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. This time on Blu-ray.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

I thought it was really good. I liked the way they're handling the ape's 'evolution.'

A Most Wanted Man.

The late Philip Seymour Hoffman's last movie. Hoffman stars as the head of a German counter terrorism task force who is trying to find a Chechen radical illegally in Germany, to claim an inheritance to aid radical Islamists with the help of a shady banker and an Islamic scholar preaching peace publicly, but who may be something else in reality. And ultimately, Hoffman's character learns that the people who he should trust the least are other spooks.
Pretty decent last performance. Good to see a movie where the Germans aren't the bad guys.

Interstellar

Many people here on WP who have seen Interstellar have said that they didn't like it very much, so I'm not going to post much about it,
other than that it was a great movie with great performances all around. It was worth seeing.

I was rather disapointed in it, but maybe I missed something. If there are some particular points that you liked, maybe you could help me see its better side by discussing them.

"Fading Gigolo" by John Turturro

I have always liked John Turturro as an actor, but i have been less impressed with his directing. While this film is better than the first one he did, there are still aspects that I feel don't work well.

The acting is generally quite good here although Woody Allen's acting style feels like he's in a different film from everyone else. Allen plays everything light and humorous while Turturro and most everyone else are a little more introspective and serious.

I think the main problem I have with the film is that the "sex comedy" aspect of it just seems a bit tacky and icky. I would have preferred a story where people talked and actually related to one another rather than having to jump into bed. I would have preferred something more along the lines of Eric Rohmer's films.

The photography is quite nice to look at and the acting is generally good. It is in the storytelling where the problem arrises. The basic story comes across as a male fantasy rather than a real exploration of how people need one another. What is really frustrating is that the film isn't terrible, but it just isn't good enough.

Interstellar: Enjoyed it, but only if you like sci-fi/space films on an intellectual level.

I wasn't aware there was a TV show already, so I can't say. I did like the first halve of the movie, but then it became kind of rushed.
