I finally got fed up with Cox raising my rates constantly and nixed the cable tv entirely. I went with Netflix and ITunes instead and it has already made for significant savings. You can also shop around to see which provider has the better rates. You can even then use that as leverage to renegotiate your rates with your current provider sometimes. There are alternatives if you're willing and able to use them.

I've found that Xfinity, our cable provider, frequently has special deals to lower costs and perhaps for a time will even give you premium channels. I've also found that bundling cable together with internet and phone service is cheaper than paying for each individually, as we're given a package deal.
