Steven Universe - Is Steven Autistic?

Cartoon Network premiered it's latest offering, Steven Universe, two weeks ago. The show is created by Adventure Time alumnus, Rebecca Sugar (who is also CN's first female show runner). I've been hooked on it since CN released the show's pilot in May of this year.

Which brings me to this: from the first four episodes I've seen, Steven has been showing signs that he has Aspergers (e.g.: Singing a Cookie Cat commercial from memory, hugging a freezer, putting a strawberry in exactly the right spot). Do you think so?

and he has a cheeseburger for a backpack.

he sure does seem very excited and has to give a play by play of everything he can do.
"I just turned my fingers into cats!"
"I can use my powers just by eating ice cream!"

He may but he could also just be being a kid.

If anyone is Autistic/ASD it would be Pearl.

I think there's a lot of stuff that might suggest Steven is autistic. He seems to do some stimming-type behaviors (like humming, wiggling his fingers/drumming his fingers and hands on things, etc.) sometimes. Plus, the stuff that was mentioned. In the most recent season he's changed a bit as the show has gotten more serious and doesn't seem to do a lot of that stuff anymore.

Pearl has always struck me as an autistic character, especially early on in the show when she was shown to have a harder time relating to others, and having an aversion to being touched or hugged.

I think it's highly possible. I also think Jeff from Clarence, and Ice Bear from We Bare Bears might be as well.

I think it's a possibility, though I don't think it's a very strong one. Though I could see Peridot being on the spectrum. She definitely has the special interests and lack of social skills.

Garnet seems more autistic than any of them.
