I remember that scene very well from both the book and the TV movie.
I must admit, I was never able to finish the book, despite the fact that I had tried reading it a couple times, because I thought it was just so damn boring.

Yup and they're doing a remake of it. I'm not sure how to feel about that. It could be great or it could be crap.

The previous director quit because the studio wants to make an It film that doesn't offend anyone..... :( It will prob be as bad as the new Ghostbusters

the new Ghostbusters....i'm most definitely passing on. but the new It...i am going to check it out. i loved the first half of the original version. here's hoping the new version won't have that giant spider.... that was the most stupid anti-climatic ending ever!

What in the world offended anyone in the original? It's a horror movie so of course bad things happened. They are all part of the plot.

It was pretty close to the book IIRC, and much more so than The Stand. The Stand was good but they left out so much.

Could you imagine what a movie would be like that offended no one?

I read the book.

I thought the film IT was very good it was a little bit scary but there was a sad story to the movie as well.

I don't know how the remake will go but as I said in the Ghostbusters thread why do they have to remake films can't they come up with new ideas.

That, or the movie industry thinks it's less of a gamble to remake a hit than to risk an original idea that might be a flop.

They're not going to outdo tim curry for capturing pennywise's poisonous charm... that was an incredible effort! I really appreciated the more subtle scenes being explored in the original, you got a feel of the losers lives leading up and around their kooky encounters with that cosmic scumbag and I think Derry was portrayed quite faithfully to be honest, I loved how they done the intro with the fabled newspaper boat, it had the correct sequence of events and the mood was just right, I dunno how else to express my admiration for that vital prelude! I think there's room for improvement sure, it was nowhere near a brilliant representation of such a work of genius but it was true and solid enough, not sure this will produce a superior feeling for me!

Or Stephen King decided he wanted an adaptation that was closer to the book (Or just wanted it to be able to sell more copies of said book).

I agree. I don't think anyone can top Tim Curry's Pennywise.

Remakes can be a good or bad thing depending on who is behind it. Most people don't know this Scarface that Al Pacino is in was a remake

That is true. Unfortunately, most remakes are just unmemorable, like the Freddy Krueger and Conan remakes.
