With the original cast, #2 and #4 were the best by far. Frankly, I don't find anything that endearing about any of the ones with the TNG cast - Nemesis was pretty decent if only for Data's awesomeness. The rest of them had mediocre scripts, at best, including the "crossover" one with Kirk and the TNG cast, and the time travel / Borg one was just awful - all of the scenes with Riker and co on earth and Giordi helping the guy break the warp barrier all were just cringe-worthy. Its only redeeming aspect was the Worf / Piccard conflict. I know I'm the only one but the new film going back to the young crew of the Enterprise I didn't find to be at all good either.

Yeah, since this thread was started, Into Darkness came out which I thought for the most part was excellent.

Star Trek Into Darkness 1

I think I'm probably one of the only people that really likes The Motion Picture. I'm a sucker for reunion stories. Even though it suffered from pacing problems it was pretty obvious they were a result of a genuine love of and attempt to imitate 2001, even if it fell on its face a bit. After that Star Trek: Save the Whales is probably my favorite. I'm not a huge fan of the TNG movies but I could take them or leave them.

I did enjoy the 2009 movie, I thought it was fun and I can live with a certain amount of breaking canon on something that acknowledges it's an alternate universe. But I found Into Darkness absolutely horrible. This review addresses most of my issues with the movie: http://io9.com/star-trek-into-darkness- ... -508927844

It doesn't help that one of the writers shoehorns 9/11 conspiracy crap into his writing, which explained why a lot of the plot just made no sense: 9/11 conspiracy theories don't make sense either.

I found Cumberbatch a poor choice for Khan, he seemed to be really phoning it in. John Cho also has some legitimate complaints about the treatment of his character: http://www.straight.com/movies/383146/s ... ian-puppet How did Sulu go from being one of the most happy go lucky, pirate at heart characters to a cutout "mysterious Asian" character?! He even had a freaking katana.

Yes, I have a lot of complaints about Into Darkness, but only because I really like Star Trek and it makes me sad to see it being milked for a generic summer blockbuster film. Who's going to rewatch Into Darkness in 30 years the way The Wrath of Khan can be rewatched? I'm guessing not very many people, it just didn't stand out as a movie. I am however hopeful now that it's been announced that Abrams isn't working on the next film. Hopefully some better creative decisions will be made.

And just so that I have something good to say about the new movies: I love Karl Urban. His drawl is wonderful and I think he does a great justice to his character. I also do think the main problems with the movie are with the script, for the most part the actors seem to really be putting their hearts into it, but you can only do so much with what you're given.

tl;dr: I have lots of feelings about Star Trek.

I've only seen the one from 2009 back when it was in theaters and I liked that, but can't really rate it compared to the others I haven't seen. Aside from that movie my exposure extends to the next generation series, which I am currently in the process of watching all the seasons.

I've seen the first 9 ST movies, and possibly Nemesis (can't recall for sure). I thought most of them were pretty forgettable although not bad per se, so I would rate them 3 or 4 out of 10.
My definite favorite is Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, which I would rate 7.
The first movie was also okay, but what I liked the most about it was the reveal that it was the Voyager probe returning more than the rest of the movie on its own terms. Not sure how I'd rate it. Better than the rest, not as good as Voyage Home. 5 or 6 I guess.

As someone who is obsessed with ST, I find it hard to be objective. I like all of the films but for different reasons.

I would happily watch starships being docked and undocked all day. I could aimlessly crawl through Jeffries tubes for no apparent reason, or even degauss transporter pads without complaint.

My top three in no particular order would be; The Wrath of Khan, The Undiscovered Country, First Contact.

After these three ....... ooooooh, I don't know.
