Like a lot of other people I'm not very fond of the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy. In the past I've watched them on occasions only to go with the other movies and yeah they were bad but watchable but now I've to a point where I realize they're pretty awful. Too be fair I'm only really counting the first two. Revenge of the Sith while it does carry a lot of problems are carried over from the first two does still have some pretty good moments. Anyway here are a list of good things from those three movies.

The Phantom Menace
The lightsaber duel

Attack of the Clones
The death sticks guy
Yoda's duel with Count Dooku

Revenge of the Sith
The opening battle above Coruscant
Hayden Christensen as Anakin when he's not talking
The opera scene
Anakin and Padme staring out the windows after Anakin told Mace Windu that Palpatine is a Sith Lord
Obi-Wan vs Anakin/Yoda vs Palpatine
Anakin becoming Darth Vader before the NOOOOOOO!

All Three in General
Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi
The Emperor
John Williams Epic Music
The many different worlds

The only good thing about the prequels was Padmé's jaw-dropping wardrobe. It's a shame the actress wearing said wardrobe, despite being beautiful, can't act.

I don't get the hate that some have for the prequels, esp since the original three films are so overrated.

What really got me was the crying over the old EU no longer being cannon. Anyone with half a brain should have seen that coming, I mean they knew Disney was going to make more films and it was just crazy to expect them to put those novels on the big screen for so many reasons. They really weren't that good, the Twarn trilogy excepted, and even that was far to bizzare to make a film out of.

And then you had fans who thought Disney would retcon the prequels! How delusional was that? Very.

Also Rogue 1. Its a prequel, and I would put ALL OF IT as something good about the prequels.

That's not a correct statement. Rogue 1 is clearly a prequel, and Disney has more cooking.

Double-eged Lightsaber. Need I say more?

To all SW fans: Yes, the prequels and Clone Wars are cannon. They are an interwoven part of the story now, with Rebels drawing heavily from the PQ/CW era. Get over it.

Not double edged, double bladed.
A lightsaber doesn't have an edge and to say that it does would be to say that only on small part of the blade cut.

Right, my mistake. But, still, it is cool. 8)

Yeah it is, until he cuts himself in half due to how impractical it is.
:D

Question: Do you think the Prequel Trilogy would have been any better if they were directed by different directors?

Great story line for Darth Sidious/Palpatine.

The main thing I appreciate from the prequels (besides revolutionising the lightsaber duels) is the sense of closure they bring to the overall storyline. Keep in mind that without the prequels we have no idea who Anakin Skywalker, Ben Kenobi or Yoda really were in their prime. The Emperor is just a random old guy with no backstory. We don't know what the Clone Wars were. We don't know 3PO or R2's origins, etc.

I do think this point has some merit. I have always maintained that the overall storyline of the prequels was almost perfect, just (very) badly executed. I actually think it's quite unfortunate that they were made around the time CG started to make great progress, Lucas was simply given waaay too much freedom, it's as simple as that.

Yeah, those are my thoughts. The original Stars Wars has a brilliant first half, then falls apart when we get to the Death Star. Then we get to the sequel, Empire Strikes Back, where George Lucas hires an actual Science Fiction writer in Leigh Brackett. The first thing she does is ditch the Death Star. For those who don't know, life forms are incapable of destroying planets. Collisions with other orbiting planets, stars which go super nova and black holes; those are capable of destroying planets. Laser beams from orbiting satellites are incapable of destroying planets. So Empire Strikes Back is a brilliant piece of work and easily the best film of all the Star Wars movies because it combines the creative vision of George Lucas with the writing skills of Leigh Brackett.

Return of the Jedi is like Hope in that it has a great first half, then falls apart when we get to the rebuilt Death Star. Leigh Brackett is no longer involved unfortunately and the film suffers as a result.

Now we come to the prequels. All three are well made and carefully constructed to provide the back story to the characters in the first three films. All I think made money but people like to bag them for no other reason that you are presented with a complex story and have to think a bit. Most people are sheep and don't want to think too much. So along comes Disney and buys out George Lucas and their first concern is to return a profit on their investment. Hence they rehash the same old characters from the original three movies. Luke Skywalker becomes a female. Hans Solo becomes a black guy. And they resurrect the Death Star with the same plot as the first two movies. And because people are sheep they fall into line and praise the Disney movies which convinces Disney to keep making films that are essentially drivel masquerading as art.
