*the devil and daniel webster [eerie morality tale of a man who sells his soul to the devil]
*the devil's rain [another devilish tale]
*incubus [shot entirely in esperanto]
**the velveteen rabbit [shot on video for television, meryl streep narrates]. i saw this in the army in 1986, and it made me weep.
*executive action [the first of the "conspiracy" movies about the assassination of JFK]
*the loved one [satire of the amuuurican funerary industry]
*bad ronald [eerie tale of a teen boy who lives under the house when his mom dies]
*born innocent [a miracle that this one passed the NBC tv censors of the day - i watched it on the one and only time it was broadcast, with mouth agape at "that scene"]
*stairway to heaven (aka "a matter of life and death") [a rethought version of "here comes mr. jordan"]
*hilary and jackie [bio of cellist Jacqueline du Pré and her sister, flutist Hilary du Pré, harrowing real-life tale]

Xuan Zang (2016), excellent movie.

Red Cliff parts one and two.

Musa the warrior.

Night Watch (2004, Russia).

Man bites dog (1992). Really weird.

Straight to Hell (1987). Punk rock spaghetti western. And now that I've spent an hour or so trying to find the name of it, I've got to go see if I can find a copy of it, because I've only seen it once so far.

(Editing to add)

Charlie's Country. I'd really like to find a copy of it with English subtitles.

Float like a Butterfly. I thought it was interesting to see a movie about Irish Gypsies.

Anything Uwe Boll.

And now I have to stay out of this thread, because weird and obscure movies are kind of a thing for me, and I'll end up with a massive list of them here if I don't stop. And that will take a long time, and probably involve watching a lot more movies.

oooh. there's some I haven't seen, here.
But... "Best Movie no-one has ever heard of" and your answer is "Anything Uwe Boll"? I mean... he has made a decent film or two, inbetween a body of work only Uwe Boll is ready to defend.

I like Uwe Boll.

Gods & Monsters (a film starring Ian McKellen as the infamous director James Whale)

I'm not sure I would call it a best movie...unless you like slow, atmospheric horror movies...or we're talking about movies in Esperanto...but IMDb does like it. I agree it is worth watching, however. You get to see a pre Trek William Shatner speaking Esperanto with a Canadian accent.

Yes! And a noteworthy cast...and Jonathan Winters serves double-duty.

Nobody I've talked to has ever heard of my favorite Christmas movie, The Hogfather, a TV-film adaptation of the book by Terry Pratchett.

The Descent

A very gory, very claustrophobic film about a group of women who go backpacking one day,
but suddenly are trapped in a cave where they are hunted by a mysterious group of
humanoid creatures.

How about two from down under?

Undead [2003]
Tagline: "Crazy has come to town for a visit!"
Sort of a zombie film, sort of not exactly. IMDb lists its genres as Action, Comedy, Fantasy but the trailer might hint there is a bit of Horror, too. From The Spiereg Brothers.

Black Sheep [2006]
Tagline: "Get ready for the Violence of the Lambs!"
This is not the 1996 film with Chris Farley.

---It's not that I just watch horror/comedy films, it's just where I think I've met some less-known gems.---

reanimator [uncut version], a delightfully rude horror flick with just the right amount of the blackest humor possible.

Good film, rarely shown. To think that being in heaven / eternal paradise can actually make you miserable if the love of your life is forced to incarnate.

the thing is that our loved ones in heaven are ok with their loved ones leaving them for a short bit of earth school time. it is rather like parents sending their kids off to summer camp.

I told my bride about this thread and she really wants me to mention one of her favorite films:

Gigot [1962]
Tagline: "A new joy has come to the screen... and the world is a happier place to live in!"
Starring Jackie Gleason, so talented he truly was "The Great One", and the movie was directed by Gene Kelly.
This is not the kind of movie I usually seek but I admit it is quite good and I don't mind watching it with my bride.

...and to balance that out...

Tucker and Dale vs Evil [2010]
Tagline: "The perfect love story... with a high body count..."

CAUTION
To the casual observer this movie appears to have an excess of gory violence...so don't be a casual observer! If you pay attention to the film it is very funny!

Not too obscure but I really like Dazed and Confused (Linklater), Mulholland Drive and Lost Highway (both by David Lynch).
