Freeze.

Imagine The Terror crossed with Lovecraft's At The Mountains Of Madness, and you'd have this movie.
The captain of a 19th century British warship is on a rescue mission to save his friend who had disappeared leading a naval expedition to the North Pole, only to discover his friend had had ulterior and horrific motives in exploring the far north.
Though obviously low budgeted, it wasn't a half bad delving into the Cthulhu Mythos.

Last night I watched:

Juan of the Dead [2011]
<=>"50 years after the Cuban Revolution, a new Revolution is about to begin."
I watched it in Spanish with English subtitles.

A Cuban zombie film.

It is fun and very funny!

Even though Cuba is pretty much destroyed and some of the major characters die.

Last night I watched:

The Wasp Woman [1959]
[<=>"Horror Of The Winged Menace !"

1950's Science Fiction directed by Roger Corman...and quite tolerable.

(It's mostly drama.)

The Batman.
Already saw it a couple times, but I was in the mood for it for the holiday. Robert Paterson made a great Bruce Wayne/Batman. My take on the titular character is, if he hadn't become a vigilante crime fighter he probably would have put a gun in his mouth a long time ago. I also enjoyed how Batman is not just a guy who beats up bad guys, but has also returned to his comic book roots as a detective.

Last night we watched:

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice [2024]
<=>"You've waited an eternity for this."

Good movie. If you enjoyed the first one I think you'll like this one, too.

But, if you are familiar with the films then you know you have to say his name three times.

I hope there will be another sequel!

Joan of Arc of Mongolia, 1986

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0095406/

Quote:

A group of cosmopolitan women passengers aboard the Trans-Siberian/Mongolian Railway are taken prisoner by Ulan Iga, a warrior princess.

Only 267 people voted on it in imdb, but I thought that is was a really cute movie. I recommend it, if you are in the mood for a cute musical.

Last night we watched:

Godzilla Minus One [2023]
<=>"Postwar Japan. From zero to minus." WWII destroyed Japan...Godzilla made it worse.
We watched it in Japanese with English subtitles.

I agree with pcgoblin, this movie is very good. And incorporating the original theme music was powerful.

Since the original film Godzilla has appeared in a number of films in multiple franchises. I think this Godzilla film might be the most polished visually. And it actually tells a story about some people who are affected by Godzilla.

I have to assume this is the start of a new franchise.

I liked all 3

Deadpool & Wolverine was just a fun ride of nostalgia and absurdity.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice reminded me of the 80's cartoon. The cast and premise were handled well, without feeling forced, with many good callbacks to the first movie and filling in the story.

Venom was a different take on the character than I grew up with, but I liked the way they handled it. It was nice to see more to Eddie Brock and the Venom symbiote than just "I hate spiderman".
