Out of Sight; but consider seeing Jackie Brown 1st. Both movies based on Elmore Leonard novels (a major character in Jackie Brown is a minor character in Out of Sight played beautifully by Michael Keaton).

Conspiracy Theory (also under rated)

Alice in Wonderland (Tim Burton version). I have never disagreed with anyone so much as I have over this movie. Most people cite it as an example of Tim Burton's descent into mediocrity, whereas this movie is one of my favorites of all time, up there with Edward Scissorhands. While I acknowledge that it's not perfect and it's not Oscar-winning material, it really resonated with me because of the way that it touches on the topics of imagination, mental illness and the struggle to be independent.

I especially connected to Johnny Depp's performance as the Mad Hatter. I saw a lot of myself in him because, while he is usually pleasant to be around, he gets upset or angry rather easily, and even has a meltdown at one point. Whereas most people saw it as another Johnny Depp attempt to be wacky, I saw a character with whom I had found a kindred spirit. The Mad Hatter was my biggest obsession of 2010 (the year the movie came out), and while my attention is now split between several other character obsessions in addition to the Mad Hatter, I still maintain a bit of favoritism towards him.

The Nightmare Before Christmas (I especially like how the hillside unfurls when Jack walks down it. It's really cool!)
Edward Scissorhands (The best part is when Winona Ryder's character (I forget her name) says to him, "Hold me!," and he says, "I can't!" It's very touching.)
Beetlejuice (Thought Michael Keaton was better in this than in Batman)
Benny and Joon (I would like to call this a pre-Asperger's film. The world might have seen the main characters as "different," or "odd," but they didn't see each other that way.)
Toys (one of Robin Williams' lesser-known films)

Speed Racer

And speaking of the Wachoskis, their latest film Cloud Atlas was amazing as well and yet no one bothered to see it.

Jack- This is the movie that pretty much made me a Robin Williams fan.
Fluke- Hands down, best dog movie I've ever seen. Well-written and acted, too.
The Mechanic (Charles Bronson original)- See my review for it in the Cinecism thread.
Blown Away (starring Jeff Bridges and Tommy Lee Jones)

One of my favourite movies!

I find it difficult for myself to determine which movies were in fact underrated.

The thread does remind me of this clip:

I guess it's not on the level of, say Jungle Book, Snow White, or The Lion King, but it's a heartfelt story that's all too often forgotten when people are talking about the classic Disney animated films. I only recently found out that it was a 1981 release. I saw a re-release around 1995 (when I was 8 years old), and was convinced it was from that date for years onward.
