Recently I saw The Aviator, which is about Howard Hughes. It was a good film by Martin Scorsese.

Shine, based on Rachmaninovs upbringing as a child, and the auto biography of James Dean, which starred bits of himself but also James Franco who played him.
I like that film as well with Joaquin Phoenix played Johnny cash and the ones which Elvis starred in as himself.

A biopic about Sir Elton John may soon be produced with Tom Hardy as Sir Elton John.

There are a lot of good ones here. I might add 32 Short Films about Glenn Gould, Last Days, Zero Days, My Week with Marilyn, Che: Part 1 &2, Motorcycle Diaries, The Social Network, Raging Bull, Amadeus, Milk, Good Night and Good Luck, Reds, Ghandi, The Elephant Man, A Beautiful Mind, Hurricane, Invictus, Good Morning Vietnam, Stand and Deliver,..etc. There are so many good ones.
Of all of them, I probably like Amadeus the most, at this moment. I'm going to look at some of the other biopics mentioned here.
Btw, Sid & Nancy was really hard to watch, very tragic.

Although they take a lot of liberties, The Glenn Miller Story with Jimmy Stewart and The Benny Goodman Story with Steve Allen are 2 of the best that I have seen.

Although it isn't a biopic, the Shootist pretty much run in parallel with John Wayne's personal life before his death from cancer.

The TV biopic about Temple Grandin was very well-done.
