I wonder fi anyone here has wondered about what i am posting here. Im a big fan of X-Men, and i have all 3 films on my shelf, and i wonder if anyone else notices similarities between Human views on Mutants, and NT views on Aspies, as i fid that the films, especially X3, were like watching NT's trying to 'cure' us. as i feel NT's don't take to us well and they fear us as we are different, well i don't mean fear, but they just don't take to us well as we are different. And how most Mutants in that film protested that they were not diseased, but unique people who just see tihngs, and experience things different. Much like what most AS people tihnk too. I really felt like the films was very similiar to what we expereicne in real life. What does everyone else think?

NB: Im sorry i have made this seem vague, but it's hard to express mky feelings, so i hope others will post and contribute. :)

I love x-men. I see that parellel too! I thought xmen and x2 were the best though. The third one had a good story and it hit close to home, but I thought it could have been better and longer. I didn't want it to end!

Oh I agree. And I fully intend to use every resource in my power and within my ability to do something about it.

We are almost like the X-men, aren't we?
I try not to romanticize AS too much, my head is easily inflated.
However, that is an interesting idea.

Makes me feel cool 8)

Right now I'm watching X-Men 2 and I can the similarities between the X-Men and people with Aspergers. I never romanticize Aspergers but if I was one of them, I'd probably be Wolverine.

HEY NTs! Screw You!

Tis true. There are many parallels between the mutants and us Aspies. And just like Magneto's Brotherhood and Dr. X's X-men, some of us are radical, and some of us are pacifist. Some of us want Aspies to rule the world, while others call for coexistence.

In true, we are the mutants... but how will we use our powers? Will we join the Brotherhood and force the world to accept us, or do we take a stand and convince the world to accept us?

I have never looked at it in that way, but when you mention it. Sometimes people treat me like I was a mutant or something and most of the time I really hate it. But when it comes to situations when feel like I am the smarter one (and it often happens :P) I kind of love it. I do not try to romantice it but I feel like AS is big part of myself. Without it I would not be myself. Isn't that a comfort or what?

Yeah I love X-men. (I seen so many different threads now here and elsewhere asking just the same question.)

I think the X-men have parallels to any marginalised group. (Although in their case I would have to say that the general population's fears are not unfounded.) The fear that people have is like that of anyone when something is changing faster than society's ability to understand it. But the mutant outcast idea -- especially as something which usually presents in puberty -- is also a good illustration of teenage feelings of "un-belonging".

Abso-flumin'-lutely. We are the mutants, we defy their abuse, see through their falseness, burn them with our stares, freeze them with our disdain, drain them dry with our touch. We are in a different dimension!

Yes, I have reflected on the parallels.

You pretty much nailed it on the head right there. Bryan Singer said that the scene in the second movie where Ice Man confronts his family was based on when he "came out" in real life ("Have you tried...not being a mutant?") :P

I haven't seen the third one, but the idea of a "cure" sounds like a good parallel to autism today.

A Genousha for aspies would be interesting. We could be ourselves and not have to worry about what anybody else thought

the thing is that maybe a few people would want a cure...but the problem is that for us who have higher functionality autism, we're just screwed. they'll say either you get the cure or you have no excuse for your problems.
