Nickalive blog

On the Nickalive blog there is an article saying that Nickelodeon is planning to RENEW SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS for SEASON 16!! !

How do we make this show FINALLY GO AWAY?!?

It is harder to get rid of than Pearl's barnacles or SpongeBob and Patrick with Squidward!

Sorry I just needed to vent...

The Simpsons (36 seasons), Family Guy (23 seasons), South Park (26 seasons) and American Dad (21 seasons) have all lasted longer.

So, with that in mind I wouldn't expect them to kill it so long as it keeps making them money.

I think the show should have ended after session 3 and the first movie, every after that is really not worth watching.

I agree, SpongeBob should have ended after the first movie, it all went downhill from there.

The creator Stephen Hillenburg wanted the show to end after 3 seasons and the first movie, but unfortunately he had sold the rights to Nickelodeon and they didn't want the money-train to end. Hillenburg left because of this, although he did continue to occasionally contribute until his health failed and his death in 2018.

I agree, the first 3 seasons were the best and afterwards the downward spiral began. I found seasons 4-7 decent, probably because Stephen still was involved, but after that it really started to go downhill. I can't handle anything after that really.

I have not only never seen the show, I have never been the least bit interested in seeing the show.

I liked that show back in the earlier or maybe mid 2000's when I was a kid, but after that it kind of started going downhill I thought so I'm surprised it's still going.

I believe what has happened is Nickelodeon has voluntarily imprisoned themselves with SpongeBob SquarePants!! !

What do I mean by that?

I mean that Nick has basically found themselves trapped by this show and IT'S THEIR OWN DAMN FAULT!

Had they created a contingency plan in the event that something terrible happens to SpongeBob, they wouldn't be in the mess they are in right now!

The only way for Nickelodeon to break free from their imprisonment state is to create a NEW CARTOON that has the power and capability of overthrowing SpongeBob SquarePants...

As much as I love the show Spongebob, I can only tolerate that show to a point. However, I like the movies a lot better because I think they are funnier.

However, I would rather that Hasbro brought back the MLP from the 4th generation because the new ponies are annoying.

^the movies tend to have higher production values than the show, so this makes sense!

I wonder if there is overlap with SpongeBob and MLP fans?

American Dad isn't a good example here because it switched networks. Like a decade ago it moved from Fox Entertainment to TBS. I'm not sure which network owns it nowadays though since it airs on a few different channels including FXX, Tru TV, Cartoon Network's Adult Swim segment, a while back it was on Comedy Central, & it might still be still on TBS. Spongebob has always been exclusive to Nickelodeon as for as I know anyway.

It's not uncommon for networks to rely heavily on one current show. For at least a few years Impractical Jokers was the main show on Tru TV. At one point Teen Titans Go was the main show on Cartoon Network during the daytime & there was even an online petition to air it less so other shows could be aired more. I like Teen Titans Go but I signed the petion because I like other shows as well. I have to wonder if the TV programing execs assume most TV watchers have Autism or OCD & spend all their time in front the TV watching only one series :?

I still like Spongebob but there's lots of other shows I like as well. I do leave the TV on the Spongebob channel a bit because I'm doing other things while it's on so I'm only half watching, or I'm fallimg asleep on the sofa, or the other networks aren't showing anything I usually watch except eps I just seen. One reason I get tired watching Adult Swim is because half the eps repeat later that same night :tired:

I'm not sure how switching networks detracts from it lasting 21 seasons.

Yeah how would changing networks change anything with the show's longevity?

As for how to get rid of SpongeBob?

It's actually very simple:

We have to take away the primary source of revenue!! !

In other words, the merchandise!

The goal is to take away ALL incentives and motivation for Nick to keep the show in production, right?

Then what we MUST do is initiate a complete & total boycott of SpongeBob SquarePants!

This means we stop watching the show and we stop buying the merchandise

That should send a clear message to Nickelodeon that WE HAVE HAD ENOUGH OF THE SPONGE and then they will finally end the series!! !

At this stage in the game I believe the only reason why SpongeBob still exists is primarily because of the merchandise, not the other way around

The show in its current state is based on merchandise sales & revenue rather than the merchandise being based on the show

Something has DEFINITELY changed with how the IP is being managed and handled...

If you want irrefutable proof that SpongeBob has declined listen to this...

My local bowling alley/family entertainment center (FEC) is trying to get rid of and sell their SpongeBob SquarePants arcade machine!! !

And NOBODY wants to buy it!

What could all of this mean?!?

I'm just tired of him and his non-stop relevance

I personally believe that Nickelodeon has become too dependant and over-reliant on the show/IP which resulted in basically finding themselves imprisoned by this series!! !

In order for Nick to change and restore their network...

SpongeBob MUST go!! !

That's why I want SpongeBob SquarePants to be cancelled

Does this make sense?

EDIT: Also the cartoon hasn't been the same ever since Stephen Hillenburg's death!
