1992 Director's Cut

Do you prefer the director's cut, or the theatrical release?

A Cure for Wellness

Direction okay. Story started with interesting themes initially supported by director of the sanitarium, then all that kind of gets thrown out.

Movie had my hopes up about really digging into these themes of human over-competitiveness chasing after success. It bugged me that the doctor preached about this 'Illness' and this all gets dropped as he turns into a kind of monster.

Not as good as the first, but I enjoyed it a lot more than most critics seemed to.

The Girl On The Train.

Rachel is a troubled young woman, suffering from alcoholism and debilitating depression, along with blackouts, false memories, and time loss. She becomes obsessed with what she takes to be a happy couple she sees everyday when she passes a house while riding a train aimlessly.
Anna had been the other woman who Rachel's husband had left her for. She now lives with Rachel's ex in Rachel's old house, and was able to give her husband the baby Rachel never could.
Meagan is the woman Rachel had spied on her train rides, and is also the nanny for Anna's baby. She also lives a desperate, joyless secret life in which she is disloyal to her abusive husband. When Rachel believes she's being disloyal with another man, Rachel drunkenly tries to confront her, then awakens the next morning, covered with blood.
When Meagan disappears, then turns up dead, Rachel becomes the chief suspect, and has no idea if she's innocent or guilty.
Very intriguing movie told often in flash backs, Rachel having to piece together the events of the night Meagan disappeared.

Excellent.

I enjoyed it too. I liked that it took its subject seriously.
