Basically all of my favorite characters ever. It's almost a requirement for me to like them.

Sirius Black
Balto from the animated film of the same name
Tobias from Animorphs
Billy Weir from Remnants (by K.A. Applegate)
Frodo Baggins
Johnny Cade from The Outsiders, though all the greasers have my sympathies
Anakin Skywalker
Murtagh from Eragon
The Doctor
Data from Star Trek: TNG
Sherlock Holmes from Sherlock
Dr. Daniel Pierce from Perception
Dr. Sheldon Cooper
Loki from Thor

And many, many more that I either don't remember or don't feel like listing at the moment.

Angie McAlister from Under The Dome. It's just not fair that the poor girl always seems to find herself in trouble :(

I don't know if video games count here, but I just want to give Cliff in the Harvest Moon games a hug because while the other characters are (usually) happy in spite of their few problems, Cliff is homeless, his family died while he was out traveling, whenever anyone (especially Ann) is nice to him he doesn't think he deserves it because he's "such a mess", and if you don't tell him a job is available at the winery he leaves at the end of the first year because he's run out of money.

Henry Spencer in Eraserhead.
He's a probably Aspie and uber-nerd trapped in a loveless marriage due to the unintended consequences of sex, along with a "monster baby" he's left alone by his wife to care for. He feels both love and revulsion for the child, which seems to take delight in taking part in ruining his already empty life. His only hope of escape is with his dream girl in the radiator (for those unfamiliar with the movie, and are taken back by "his dream girl in the radiator," I should mention this is a David Lynch movie  ).

Timothy in "The odd life of Timothy Green". Why did the sweet plant (surely plant was what he was?) have to die?

Sammy in Sammy's adventures.

Baxter Stockman from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
I grew up watching the original cartoon and always liked Baxter, even though for a while I only knew him as "the guy that got turned into a fly" :P
And he's ego constantly got the better of him in the 2003 series.
And in the new one, I really do pity him, I know he's a bad guy but everyone treats him like dirt, more than usual, it seems. Maybe he wouldn't resort to doing bad things if people treated him with a little respect. Although they might be more inclinded to do that if he was a little nicer. But still... it's like he's always just a step away the lime light but no one lets him actually reach it.

I liked the bad guys in children's cartoons. They were usually far more interesting, funny and intelligent than the dull protagonist, but they always lost. Haven't felt that sorry for anyone lately, but I vaguely recall looking at a couple of characters and thinking, "man that guy got a raw deal."

Anyone on the Evangelion anime series. They, for some reason, make me feel better about myself.

Scott, from the Total Drama series. He tries WAY too hard to be the bad guy, and all the other contestants hate him for it; they even all laughed at him when he was dysfunctionally disabled in a trauma chair, (Star Trek reference, anyone)?

And I guess Sam, too; he HAS been the buttmonkey this season. Makes me kinda sad to see one of my favorite characters reduced to something so stupid.

Vanellope von Schweetz in Wreck-It Ralph, for most of the movie until right near the end. Seeing her kart get broken---twice---was almost more than I could take.

Also, on a semi-related note, I feel a bit sad for the protagonists of video games that haven't received modern updates, sequels or anything like that---Commander Keen immediately comes to mind.

Cereal mascots. Seriously, those are just depressing. And on another note, every single character in Neon Genesis Evangelion. Which is much less depressing than the aforementioned cereal commercials. :P

Yeah, the rabbit in the old Trix commercials comes to mind, the kids were always so mean to him. But a few of them are just plain weird. Lucky the Leprechaun does everything he can to hide his cereal from kids, but doesn't seem to have mind it when they find and eat it. And Sonny the Cuckoo bird... woah. He was different because he acted like he *didn't* want the cereal, but then the kids would make him eat some and he'd go insane. Drugs?
