I'm kind of excited for the Persona 5 anime coming out next year. :D

I enjoyed Yuri On Ice. It was novel, well paced and was realistic in its depiction of its characters. The animation, though inconsistent was mostly really good too.

Right now I'm currently watching The Ancient Magus' Bride. I'm enjoying it a lot, it has great animation and I love the setting based on European mythology. The best series I've seen and watched to completion this year have been My Hero Academia's second season and Miss Koyabashi's Dragon Maid. MyAnimeList 2017

I might try Yona of the Dawn again.

Watched the first few episodes of several series with a friend, so he could check out various genres. He prefers dubs, but I still like him.

I want to buy a copy of Gate. I may have to renew my Crunchyroll premium when they air season 3 in 2018.

I felt that the characters and society were unchanged as a result of the events of the series. The status quo was maintained, and if anyone learnt any lessons, this did not translate to meaningful action. Throughout the story the main character is built up to be the person who is going to shoulder the burden of guiding the ethical decisions of society. She reacts as you'd expect with horror to revelation after revelation about the history of her civilisation. But at the end after she has realised everything, she performs one small act of defiance against society in some attempt at atonement. That act of atonement is insignificant and if anything it makes the ending worse. Then everyone goes back to their regular life. A happy ending for a bunch of characters that don't really feel like they deserve it.

I think the ending would have been much better if in that final act of defiance the main character died. In her death she would have realised that she had finally recognised in that character their humanity, noting that they were not that different from one another, having both taken actions that valued individual worth over the collective. Only posthumously in the investigation of her death would people have realised the truth through genetic testing, though Satoru would have known the truth also 'in his heart', a truth that would then be disseminated among the populace and lead to civil unrest in support of equal rights.

The thing is that there is no simple and easy solution to reverse their world dystopian state; which is pretty much the point. One of the only thing they can do is to inspire kids for a better world, trust them with the future of society, and hope for the best.

<SPOILERS for Shin Sekai Yori>
Oh I understand that. I suppose it's a matter of expectations. Saki isn't some nobody in a position powerless to do anything. In that instance the ending would feel more acceptable. But she's billed as being really special, treated as such from an early age, and ends up in a privileged position where she's potentially able to make a difference and in the end it feels like that's squandered. I get that there's also no simple and easy solution... but there's also another way you could describe that situation. The writer wrote themself into a corner and couldn't figure a way to resolve it. You literally have scenes where the characters are talking about how they hope they can work out a way to make the world better, whilst raising new generations of Impure Cats. It's like watching a film about Nazis where at the end the officers are ordering soldiers to escort Jews into the gas chambers and saying out loud, I hope we can make the world a better place.

Regardless of my thoughts on the ending though, I still think it's a great show and well worth watching. It's up there with some of my favorite sci fi anime like Serial Experiments Lain and reminded me of works like Gattaca and The Demolished Man.

But what about Dagashi Kashi? I enjoyed it; it taught me a lot about Japanese candies and snacks. :D

Anime-Gataris has now officially made itself the most meta anime of the season, and very well maybe even the year, even compared to Re:Creators. It has done its fair share of references to various anime, but I have never seen it in an anime where the fourth practically turned inside out like this, the closest is I think some indie games have done things.

I've also been watching Shokugeki no Soma. Really liked the first two seasons, but so far I'm finding the third season's quality to be taking a real nosedive. Up till now it's been a lot of dumb fun. But now it's just dumb.

I have watched two episodes of the new version of Mahōjin Guru Guru and am loving it. I love the way it's both an anime and an old 2d rpg game.

I really love it. The last episode was just recently released, and was a really fun ride.

When you talk about turning the fourth inside out, what exactly do you mean?
