I tried watching Saving Private Ryan, but I got bored after the first hour and turned it off.

Movies ive seen recently:

Inception - Easily the best film of 2010, Christopher Nolan seems incapable of putting a foot wrong. Made perfect sense to me, it's not confusing!

The A-Team - I used to watch the A Team as a kid, and the big screen version is big, dumb brainless fun. Liam Neeson doesn't exactly match George Peppard's Hannibal, and there's only one BA. But this plan JUST comes together.

The Fly - Just don't watch it while your eating your food!

The Thing - See above.

I saw Matt Damon in the okayish Green Zone. Not his best work, I'd prefer The Talented Mr Ripley and Saving Private Ryan anyday. I also saw The Beautician and the Beast for the 2nd time. I love this, and Fran Drescher is so funny and cute. Did I mention that she was cute?! :D

Did people think that movie was confusing? (I've actually shared a dream with another person on 2 different occasions. And 2 different people. Very odd experiences, both.)

Just saw Kick Ass and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. SP I saw today. It was epic. Want to see it 7 more times... (on an unrelated note, the art museum had a costume exhibit and I got to see the suit Hugh Jackman wore in the first X-men movie. Claws and all. Totally in nerd-vana all day. :D )

Inherit the wind. I watched it on youtube a few nights ago, one of the best films I have seen by far. It's from 1960, and is a screen adaptation of a play based on the 1925 scopes monkey trial (that man who got arrested fo teaching evolution in a Tennesse school.) I think the dialogue in the film is brilliant.

One of my favourite quotes from the film:

Quote:
Aw, Henry! Why don't you wake up? Darwin was wrong. Man's still an ape. His creed's still a totem pole. When he first achieved the upright position, he took a look at the stars - thought they were something to eat. When he couldn't reach them, he decided they were groceries belonging to a bigger creature; that's how Jehovah was born.

Where in the World is Osama Bin Ladin

- Morgan Spurlock's movie about trying to find Bin Ladin. It was an interesting movie to see and humanizes Muslims and allows them to speak about how they view America, with most in agreement that don't dislike Americans, just dislike our government and foreign policy. I don't think Morgan got anywhere close to finding Bin Ladin and he gave it up before heading into Pakistan's tribal regions(probably a good idea). However I found it especially odd that the most trouble Morgan encountered was with the Hasidic Jews in the Israel. What jerks. You'd think they'd be a bit kinder to an American since we're giving them weapons to expand their territory. Sheesh. But, interesting movie, not quite as good as Super Size Me, but still worth watching. (Although the CGI fighting game bits were a bit too goofy for an issue as serious as this IMO)

Star Trek VII : Generations

-Hadn't seen this in so long and I've forgotten a lot about it. It's still surprisingly entertaining even though it's one those accursed odd numbered Trek films. I think I just enjoy all the major highlights they have in this movie; Seeing the Enterprise B, William Shatner and James Doohan(probably one of the last times they were together on stage I think), having Patrick Stewart and William Shatner together in their Captain roles, seeing the last of the Enterprise D(such a beautiful ship, shame it got trashed), the death of Kirk, and Malcolm MacDowell(even though his character was such a cliche villain type right now to silly one-liners). Only bits I still dislike about the movie are Data's sidestory with the emotion chip which felt like more of a distraction to the plot, and occasional use of recycled footage from the series and ST6. Good movie overall.

Last night I watched The Hand That Rocks the Cradle for the umpteenth time. A great movie and Rebecca De Mornay is fantastic as a psycho nanny! :D

I saw The Concert. It's a French/Russian movie about a classical music concert, and although I am a big fan of foreign films, this was mediocre at best.

I saw "Songs From the Second Floor" last night. This is a Swedish surreal dark comedy. It is both funny and creepy at the same time.

The story, such as it is, comprises a series of vignettes following a few characters as their lives fall apart, mostly through their own misdeeds, as the world approaches the year 2000. In one scene, a stage magician accidentally saws through a man's stomach, in another a furniture salesman, after having set fire to his shop, rides home covered in ash on a subway while the other passengers sing as an angelic choir. The world's worst traffic jam winds through town and ghosts from people's past crimes appear to question their antagonists.

This film is definitely not for everyone. I might well have put this post in the "Most Disturbing" film thread or the "Best Film" thread. I'm sure many others would put it in the "Worst film" category.

If you have a taste for disturbing surrealism, dark comedy, foreign films or elliptical storytelling, then you might enjoy this one.

After work I think I'm going to run out and see if I can find Roy Andersson's most recent film "You, The Living"

Roy Andersson also directs commercials. Here's a few of them. They are funny in a low key sort of way...
