Inception - 9/10 - On a second viewing, it's not as good as I thought it was but it's still great. The shoot-outs felt slightly unnecessary and Fisher's projected security force need better training in how to shoot people. It also slightly panders to the less intelligent part of the audience with extended exposition which was probably not really necessary. The central narrative is slightly weak but the exceptional set pieces, cinematic artistry and outstanding cast more than compensate for that defect. The zero gravity fight scene in the hotel corridor is the cinematic highlight of last year and one of the most remarkable things I've ever seen in a film.

Girl with a Pearl Earring - 9/10 - Outstanding historical drama about Jan Vermeer and his brief relationship with a beautiful servant girl. Colin Firth is excellent as Vermeer and convinces as an artist. The colours used in the film are bright and primary which I think is intended to recall Vermeer's choice of colours in his painting. Scarlett Johansson gives a restrained and subtle performance. The period detail is richly illustrated and the production design is very impressive.

I really liked that film.

I just saw Constantine, which was very interesting given my new found interest in Christian mythology and the occult in general. It wasn't as bad as I was expecting. 7/10

I plan on seeing The Green Hornet tommorow on its opening day.

Unfortunately, it'll be in 3D, but Michel Gondry will make this look good.

"Robinson Crusoe On Mars" This is a 1964 Sci-Fi adaptation of Robinson Crusoe. It's entertaining and has some reasonably scientific approaches to the subject, although it kind of decends into a bad Star Trek episode with the arrival of Friday.

"Army of Shadows" 1969 French film about the resistance fighters during the Nazi occupation of France. Very good, compelling drama that looks at the complex ethical choices various individuals had to make during that period.

Saw Green Hornet yesterday.

So much fun to watch, although a little too long, crappy script, and really crappy 3D.
Had to take my 3D glasses off just to rub my eyes.

I pretty much agree, but I did really enjoy it, I can imagine watching it again.

The 3D was pretty cool during Kato's fight scenes, but otherwise it was just pointless.

"Synecdoche, New York" By Charlie Kaufman - This is a film that definitely needs a few viewings. The basic idea is about a person who lives his life fearing death and so never is really alive. This is an idea I can relate to all too well. I sometimes live my life as if I am still waiting for it to begin. Or I am afraid of making mistakes so I don't take action. Instead of living what life I have, fearing I won't live my life well, I don't bother to live my life at all. Anyway, it's definitely a good film for people who like cerebral existential stories.

"The King's Speech" - It was a well made, entertaining film. It's a bit like a Merchant Ivory version of a feel good movie. The acting is very good... I even had a bit of sympathy for the royal family. Colin Firth, Geoffrey Rush and Helena Bonham Carter all did very well. Timothy Spall (who I usually really like) seemed a bit too much like Timothy Spall and not Winston Churchill. At any rate, the film is definitely worth seeing if you like drama and characterization and long strings of profanities.

They Live. Great premise, but not terribly well done. Could be excellent as a modern remake. Kaybee rating: Six bees.

Agree, King's Speech is a great movie. Colin Firth's performance is the type that the awards shows love - he just won the Golden Globe and I fully expect he'll win the Oscar too.

I also just saw Black Swan last night. I thoroughly enjoyed this - Natalie Portman was spot on but better still was the screen play and the production of the film. Gonna pick this one up when its out on Blu Ray.
