Spike Lee has cleverly connected the activities of the Klan with the Charlottesville riot, Donald Trump's legitimisation of the tikki torch marchers, David Duke's public support for Trump (Duke was the grand wizard of the KKK and one of the main protagonists in the movie) and how the climate created resulted in the death of the young girl Heather Heyer.
I heard Duke was afraid the movie was going to make him look stupid.

I heard Duke was afraid the movie was going to make him look stupid.
It's hilarious how stupid Duke looks in the movie, especially since the audience is aware it's based on a true story.
Duke holds a PhD and claimed his superior white brain allows him to distinguish a negro speaking on the phone from a white man
A black officer in the Colorado springs police force used Duke's arrogance to infiltrate the KKK and save a young female leader of a local black organisation from an assassination attempt
