Ad Astra.
Lots of interesting ideas in the film. The third act is where it lost me for a bit but over all I liked it.

Straight On Till Morning (1972)

USA title: Till Dawn Do Us Part (1974)

What can one say about this? A Hammer film that is often classified as one of its 'psychological thrillers', yet doesn't really fit with the others in that category. A 'kitchen sink' drama that is largely set in a Kensington mews house?

Anyway, this stars Rita Tushingham as a naive newcomer to London, as its 'swinging' era was ending, and Shane Briant as the unlikely psycho serial killer who gets her into his clutches. The film is undoubtedly controversial: some view it as a mini-masterpiece, but almost as many see it as almost unwatchable rubbish. I wouldn't subscribe to either of those extremes - it's certainly watchable, but hardly captivating and not wholly coherent.

Best reason for watching this is perhaps to see the fashions, cars and buildings of London at the time. Why are so many London-based films of that era obsessed with 'Kensington mews' locations though? I doubt whether most Brits even know (or knew) what these are.

Gawdawful British movie about an unfrozen caveman in the English countryside taken from the cave where he was happiest to a cage where Joan Crawford (shows you how far she had fallen at the end of her life as a starlet) treats him like a "ret*d child," teaching him how to play with toys and a ball. The guy who later plays Alfred Pennyworth in the Tim Burton Batman movies is the evil businessman who wants Trog destroyed so he can build a housing project.

Mike Gough was also on Avengers series and Dracula '58 ;)

The Boy in the Plastic Bubble (John Travolta, 1976).

I remember seeing this as a child and being desperately jealous that he got to live in a bubble, away from people.
