City Of God

It's a Brazilian movie about the harsh lives of residents and young gangsters in a favela (slum/ghetto) near Rio called "City Of God". Pretty good flick. Well-acted and directed. I wouldn't want to live there for all the tea in China.

Arkansas - Crime thriller about drug dealers starring Liam Hemsworth, Vince Vaughan & John Malkovich. It was okay; nothing really special, though.

Birds Of Prey - Annoying, annoying, annoying...and predictable. No wonder it went belly up at the box office.

Calm With Horses - An Irish film about an ex-boxer torn between loyalty to his ex-wife and autistic son and a family of drug dealers. Pretty good film but, in the end, you don't have much sympathy for the ex-boxer because he's such a putz.

The Deep End - Tilda Swinton plays a devoted mom concerned about the dark direction her gay, coming-of-age son is taking in life. Not a bad film, really. I don't think Tilda's ever made a bad film in her life, either.

Siren.

Shoestring budget, but decent horror film. Story of love and loss, concerning the spirit of a young woman who had committed suicide in a lake, the deaf, religious man vacationing there who falls in love with her, and the local man who wants to destroy her for killing his husband.
