Hardcore

A 1979 film whose plot centres around a father's efforts to track down his missing daughter, who has ended up in the porn industry. He's played by George C. Scott, and is aided in his quest by a Los Angeles prostitute (Season Hubley, bearing an astonishing resemblance to Deborah Harry - well, it was 1979). Lots of interesting themes and situations here, decent script and acting, quite a powerful movie overall, if a bit uneven and rather dated.

I watched this on an old ex-rental VHS tape, which was probably at least a quarter of a century old, but in excellent condition.

I watched a remake of the Omen. It was ok. The cast & effects are good. I didn’t remember much of the original, so I wasn’t too bored.

Open 24 Hours.

A young woman just released from prison for trying to kill her serial killer boyfriend gets a job in an isolated gas station for the graveyard shift. Suffering from PTSD, she hallucinates horrific sights. And after starting the job, the real terror begins. Not half bad slasher flick.

Bad Samaritan - Crime/Thriller/Horror While working as valets at a restaurant, Sean Falco and Derek Sandoval secretly use the cars entrusted to them by customers to burglarize their homes. On one night, however, Sean(playing an Irishman) finds more than he bargained for when he breaks into the house of wealthy patron Cale Erendreich and discovers a woman named Katie being held captive. Unable to free Katie, Sean abandons her, but notifies the police of his discovery. When the police are unable to find any evidence of Katie's abduction, Sean contacts the FBI and files a missing persons report for her.

Had no plans to watch it but just left the Horror Channel on(which has some great old Sci Fi shows on.

Had me on the edge of my seat. Very Good. David Tennant plays the bad guy surprisingly well and is an incredibly versatile actor. Have been watching him in a 3 part series called Des lately, which is very gripping and receiving huge praise.

I watched a remake of Jane Eyre from 1997. Is it just me or is Edward Rochester kind of a dick?

Yes it is. It's a great masterpiece of dystopian films and worthy of its status as a cult film.

Female Vampire

Another Jess Franco film, this one from 1973. A typically disjointed effort, with a plot involving the last surviving member of the Karnstein vampire family, who reluctantly kills her victims while engaging in sex with them, in order to preserve her youth (shades of Hammer's Countess Dracula). At the end she 'redeems' herself by committing suicide.

Really at least half of the film is just softcore porn, and not particularly well done at that - the scenes go on too long and are gross, ridiculous or boring. It could be said that in some parts it's 'poetic' with its repetitive, haunting violin score and dreamlike scenes, and one IMDB reviewer even compares it favourably with the work of Jean-Luc Godard. To be honest, I regard most of Godard's stuff as tripe, but at least it's high-powered, coherent tripe!

The vampire is played by Lina Romay, who was to become Franco's long-term partner and eventually married him a few years before her death in 2012. She appears in countless numbers of his films.

I actually own that, with the porn and non-porn versions.
