The Loves Of Hercules

Also known as Hercules Versus The Hydra. An Italian made film released in 1960, though the year in Roman numerals in the opening credits is MCMLXVI (1956). A so called 'Sword and Sandal' film, many of which were made from the mid-1950s to the early 1960s, dealing with Ancient Greek and Roman Mythology.

Anyway, this stars Jayne Mansfield and her husband Mickey Hargitay in a typically dire production, with a fair bit of unintentional humour. The Hydra is obviously made of cheap rubbery plastic, and there are some laughable human trees. Hargitay's dubbed dialogue makes him sound like an Oxford educated English lawyer or professor. Hercules eventually prevails against the evil rulers of Oechalia, who are seeking to use Queen Deianira (Jayne Mansfield) to attain their goals, and Mickey and Jayne ride off into the sunset together at the end. This is the only time I've seen Ms Mansfield as a brunette, though it's presumably a wig.

Hmmmm....that's actually 1966, isn't it? Not as hot in this field as I used to be, LOL.

Into the Wild - saw this last night. Critically acclaimed. Stunning visuals. Beautiful, thought-provoking. Directed by Sean Penn.

Genre: Biographical Adventure Drama.
Synopsis: Christopher McCandless (Emile Hirsch), son of wealthy parents (Marcia Gay Harden, William Hurt), graduates from Emory University as a top student and athlete. However, instead of embarking on a prestigious and profitable career, he chooses to give his savings to charity, rid himself of his possessions, and set out on a journey to the Alaskan wilderness.
