IRREVERSIBLE head bashing scene. yumme.

it wasnt pointless
it was the accumulated and welled up animal rage - from the following rest of the movie ;)

yeah but putting it at the beginning made it seem pointless... it would've been so much more justified if you actually knew what was the motiff that led to it.

I agree, they crossed so many lines with this film. the scene where the guy gets his head smashed... eek! I couldn't get rid of that image for ages. I don't mind violence in films when it is justified somehow by the plot and well directed, but that was just pointless.

another French film with lots of mindless sex and violence - Baise-moi. what a bad, bad, pointless film.

As you say Baiase Moi is minsdless rubbish, wasnt even sexy!

even though it upset me and didnt enjoy it irresverisble is a effective and well exectued film i thought... i was stunned by that film... that first scene was incredibaly shocking... i couldnt really watch and it made me feel terrible, but i did think the point of this film is that by the end of it all when you come round again to the club then having actually lived through this terrible process i found myself feeling the same way... its was horrible and shockign to find myself wanting that revenge.

its interesting that prehpas only french films can hit that level of malevolence.. la haine is a very 'exciting' film

mind recent new wave korean cinema is packed with anxious violence themes.... oldboy, sympathy of mr vengence.. etc

recently ive not been watching these kind of films .... instead i find it more healthy to watch films like cinema paradiso, the bicycle thieves, Juno etc... heartwarming stuff

Irreversible is the only movie to make me physically sick. It was a combination of the violence, the camera work and the audio.

Sweeny Todd: Fantastic cast, beautifully filmed but towards the end I honestly thought I was going to throw up.

American History X: Have only been able to watch it once. I can usually handle violent films but this one just sent me over the edge.

Boys Don't Cry: Same reasons as AHX. Plus the historical inaccuracies infuriate me.

After seeing the hippie weirdo yoga farmers posted by willa, I think we have a winner. Should someone arrest this guy?

For me, it would have to be "Requiem For A Dream" (people doubting Marlon Wayans' ability to take dramatic roles should really see this movie and see for themselves how good he can act). It's a movie about different addictions ranging from drugs to television and whatnot. I ended up feeling sick to my stomach watching that movie, it was so disturbing. If this movie doesn't make people get off drugs and stay off it, I don't know what would. This movie makes those scary public service announcements of the 80's like an afterschool special.

Ben X (2007): It's a Dutch movie about this guy with autism (severe AS) who's caught up in a MMORPG called ArchLord. Never before have I encountered a movie about autism so strong. It's inspired by a true story.

Old Boy (2003): A Korean film about vengeance. It's unexplainable and very disturbing!
