I just watched the last special. I love the bit after regeneration when Moffat checks his hair and exclaims "Oh no, I'm a girl!"

Sorry for being pedantic... but it's not MOFFAT who checks his hair but Matt Smith... Steven Moffat is the lead writer...

*Ahem* anyway I have watched Dr. Who since Christopher Eccleston (stop moaning all you whovians, I am only a kid and I can't get the old ones! ) and when he left and became David Tennant, I was freaking out! NO ONE COULD REPLACE CHRISTOPHER ECCLESTON!! ! The second DT's doctor woke up in 'The Christmas invasion' I was bouncing around really happy! It's funny because I am now shouting NO ONE COULD REPLACE DAVID TENNANT!! ! I'll be back after the first episode apologizing no doubt!

(and if I've made any mistakes, feel free to correct them, I am not a hypocrite  )

Man, I must have been more tired than I thought last night not to have noticed the wrong name. It was a familiar name so I just accepted it.

It took me a few episodes before I accepted David Tennant as the doctor because it was so sudden and unexpected since I didn't discover Doctor Who until series 4 was airing so I was watching the first ones on dvd in quick succession. Once I came around though, I became a huge fan. When Matt Smith was first announced as the new doctor I was so upset - he has no eyebrows!! But having had time to adjust to the idea and seeing him in set photos and trailers I think he'll be a good doctor. I'm just trying not to think about the fact that him being the doctor means that DT is not the doctor anymore :(

Just saw the second part of The End of Time. Wonderful. I even came close to weeping when the Doctor was having his little rant and rave after finding out exactly who knocked four times. And that regeneration...not too sure about Matt Smith, but he could grow on me.

You found that cry-worthy? Wow!
I find the troubled rants over-used an overdone. Not Tennant's fault mind you.
The better and more emotional interaction was the gun exchange. Far more emotive.
You are right about Matt Smith though. I have my doubts.

Hey, if I found out I was going to die after a certain event, and it came true, I would be ranting and raving at the absolute unfairness of it all. I could sympathise with the Doctor in that regard.

No question about that. I just think that Tennant's Dr Who tended to rant a lot and this unfortunately for me had the effect of traveling down a familiar path without much emotional impact. As far as acting talent and the ability to breath life and personality into the Dr well I think he was excellent and will be sorely missed. I think he raised the benchmark here far higher than what I expect other doctors could expect to reach.
He was able I think to convey much more subtle and trouble, human emotion when quietly contemplative and the gun exchange with Wilfred was indeed an example of this. Two fine actors projecting much clever conveying of emotion with simple and few words and not done with ranting or raving. Did not cry but enjoyed that bit a lot.
Will miss the old doctor. Will like to see what the new kid on the block is like. I expect a zany, smart, high energy, fun doctor....I think that is a bit of a shame

The part that I like the most about the 11th Doctor is that Moffat will be the lead writer. The man who wrote "Blink" can't possibly disappoint.

Re sad scenes: the only time I've cried with Doctor Who was when he left Rose on the parallel world at the end of Season 2 and the communication dropped before he could finish what he had to say.

In my opinion I prefer the old series but I do watch the new series as it is Dr. who at the moment I am going through Tom Baker era I'm at his last series so I'll be watching Peter Davison. If you want to through them all go on www.dailymotion.com

I think Matt Smith will be a good doctor when I first saw him in an interview I thought he was to young but Peter Davison was the same age as Matt Smith when he took over as the doctor.

Anyway that website just has the old series.

I dunno where to find the first story (variously called An Unearthly Child and 100,000 BC) online, but a DVD boxset called The Beginning Boxset has the first three Doctor Who stories: An Unearthly Child, The Daleks, and The Edge of Destruction. This boxset has a wonderful documentary on the creation of the program called Doctor Who: Origins, as well as a pilot version of the original story which was never meant to be transmitted.

Here's the first part of the first episode from YouTube. This is not the pilot version, as most versions on YouTube appear to be, but rather the version transmitted.

I recommend that, if you can borrow the DVD set, do so.
Thank you for posting the video!! I read somewhere that the first episode, or maybe a couple episodes in the first season, had been lost forever. It's really cool to see the first episode and know it's not dead. :3
Living in the US, I'm one of the newbies to the series and came into not knowing anything about the Doctor's past or the Time Lords or anything. (So to me he has always been the Last of the Time Lords, and the Time War is only an old story.) it's kind of fun because the series is so long, seeing the old episodes feels like uncovering real history, like a lost tomb or something!

The first three stories are available. Unfortunately, the entirety of the fourth Doctor Who story, Marco Polo, is missing. All missing stories and episodes have audio recordings (made by fans), and they often have clips available from various sources. There is a good list of what is currently missing and what is available from missing episodes on Wikipedia:
