And that's another thing. What the HELL is up with the reality shows on Cartoon Network?!? It's already enough that we have to put up with them on every other channel day by freakin' day! Just another reason why the 2000s sucked (aside from the technology). Hopefully this decade is better, but I'm not really holding my breath.

I don't want the same to happen to cartoons that I still love.

Neither do I. The shows of the 90s are just that, in that they are unique to the 90s. They could re-run them, though, but that doesn't seem to be likely, as the little 2000s kids would most likely say, "Uchh that is SOOOO old people stuff, the generic conformist crap on these days is is soooo much better (minus the proper grammar  ),"

Just to add to my rant, doesn't it seem a bit odd that almost every one of these shows (aside from the juvenile CG crapola) involves nearly THE SAME (bleep) SUBJECT?! !?! ! You know what I mean, "OMG, My boyfriend broke up with me!! OH NO!! I need TO KISS," all it does is pressure kids to grow up too fast, and for a kid with aspergers, this can be nothing short of HELL ON EARTH!!

I'm just glad I have the Boomerang channel for the old Cartoon Network shows. :D

I miss Cartoon Network from the '90s and early '00s the most. Of course, Boomerang is currently showing some of the old shows from that era of Cartoon Network, but it's just not the same. I would kill to have '90s/early '00s Cartoon Network back.

The '90s were truly the glory years of kids' programming; and now, it's merely an empty shell of what it used to be...

Now I have to say, there was one exception to this trend of bad children's shows recently. Nickelodeon's "Avatar: The Last Airbender" was an amazing show that I watched for its entire run, from when it started until the final episode when I was 15 and I was too old for "childish cartoons." This show had everything: interesting characters, complex plot, cool action sequences, and (usually) intelligent humor too. I loved this show and I think it was much smarter than the average children's cartoon. I can only hope that the live action movie being released this summer can live up to the brilliance of the original show.

At one time in ancient history, parents actually acted like parents and if they did not like the content of a certain show and felt it was inappropriate for their child, they simply did not allow them to watch it. Watching television is not a right, it's a privilege. Now days a lot of parents seem to have this mindset that if something upsets their child they think it will upset all children. So they make a big fuss and complain to the producers and cable channels until it gets removed and as a result the cable companies fear putting any similar programs on. These days everyone is so afraid of offending someone and try to avoid anything objectionable. SpongeBob may have its violent or disgusting moments, but compared to Ren & Stimpy or Rocko's Modern Life, it's Sesame Street.
It's not just children's programs that have gone downhill. I remember Animal Planet used to air programs that were actually about animals; and not just domesticated animals but all different species. The programs were actually informative and educational and repeated scenes of someone being mauled by a bear or trampled by a bull. When these things happen, humans are usually the ones at fault but these programs make it appear as if animals are nothing but trouble makers. TLC is an acronym for "The Learning Channel" and at a time it featured actual educational programs. Today the lesson is in fashion or the lifestyles of a family with umpteen children or who have a disability that really isn't so depilating or they brought it upon themselves. Discovery wasn't always "The Stereotypical Macho Man Channel". Most People don't care to be educated anymore, they want to be entertained and reminded of how "superior" they are of others and gawk at people with lifestyles that aren't the norm.

I have to agree. Avatar was a great cartoon. I actually hope that the same staff could get together to make a new, original show with an even more complex plot.

It would seem that there is a live-action (Yes, LIVE-ACTION, let that sink in) movie coming out.

Did I mention that M. Night Shamylan (or however it's spelled) made it? I can see it now:

The twist ending: Aang is an alien!

I know. What I meant was a new show with the same writing and animating staff, but with an original plot that has nothing to do Avatar.

I like chowder and flapjack aswell. At the very least Chowder has really interesting animation and flapjack is just adorable. I've seen afew episodes of the Garfield show, and yeah I liked Garfield and Friends better. The plot for the episodes is usually still good but it just seems weird to see Garfield animated differantly.

In defence of Cartoon Network's non-animated shows aimed twards kids, Dude what would happen and Destroy Build Destroy are actually pretty good shows. At the very least they're moderatly more educational than whatever the hell Nick and Disney play for that age group. DWWH is kind of like a combo of Jackass and Mythbuster and Destroy Build Destroy is like a kid's version of Junkyard Wars (which I use to love watching). Anyways point being, in the land of horrible mindless kid's tv Cartoon Network is doing a good job considering what their competitors have been playing.

It would be good to see more cartoons like Avatar, that being cartoons simular to Japanese anime that is more mature without just being vulger, makeing it watchable by kids and adults.

Too true. Kids shows today, are just not kid shows. I miss the old Disney cartoons, especially Ducktales and TaleSpin and the Care Bears. The stuff for kids these days, is too...grown up, I think.

I can't stand new kids TV programmes, they also churn them out on a conveir belt without putting any thought into them. Also kids programmes have become too dumbed down and silly and alot of it is just little colourful things making noises, I want to see some educational stuff or atleast something that isn't completely dumbed down. I want kids to learn something goddamnit, and not just the meaning of friendship, actual issues and subjects shown in a child friendly way without wrapping them in cotton wool.
Also the shows that are purely entertainment and not particularly educational could do with some better plots, mediums other than sh***y CGI, no laughter tracks or any of that bollocks. Also tween shows like hannah montanna are rubbish aswell, I miss the days of lizzie maguire.

The 90's-very early 00's is my golden age of kids TV! Forget drake and josh and backyardigans, rock on pingu and playbus!
There are some exceptions though, but only some.

I think the 80s and early 90s were the golden age for Cartoons.
